核心考点
试题【完形填空。      A man was exploring some caves by the seashore. In one cave he __1__a 】;主要考察你对题材分类等知识点的理解。[详细]
举一反三
阅读下面短文,请将文后标有A-E的句子插入文章中标号1-4的合适位置,使短文连贯完整;其中一个句子是多余的。     You say you"re old enough to stay out late on weekends while they say you have to be home
early. You say you want to see that new film while they say you can"t see it. You say you"ve met
some nice kids and you"d like to go out with them, but they say they"d like to see your friends first.
When you"re a teenager, it seems that every time you say "I want to", they will certainly answer "No,
you can"t." Also, no part of your life is safe from the "prying eyes" of your parents. 15-year-old Debbie
says, "My dad always wants to know where I am, what time I"m going to be home. Most parents do
that. Do they have to know everything?    1 "
2    When something goes wrong, most parents just don"t believe in their children. Without asking
why, they think their kids are wrong. And not many parents would allow their kids to choose for
themselves.
3    But remember that not too long ago you were really a child. Your parents still remember
the childish mistakes you used to make. They want to protect you though you do not want them to
do so. And when something seems to threaten your well-being, they worry.
So, if you want to get more freedom, please try to understand your parents and do not just lie.
4   If you want them to allow you to stay out late, don"t just say, "All the other kids can stay out late.
" Tell them as much as you can about what you want to do and where you"ll be and why it"s important
for you to stay out later ..., they might just say yes.A. Yes, it is true that your parents sometimes treat you like a small child.
B. No one likes being troubled.
C. They should give us more freedom.
D. Try a more friendly way.
E. Young people further complain that their parents do not respect them.

阅读理解。     The world is filled with smart, talented, educated and gifted people. We meet them every day.
A few days ago, my car was not running well. I pulled it into a garage and the young mechanic had
it fixed in just a few minutes. He knew what was wrong by simply listening to the engine. I was
amazed. The sad truth is, great talent is not enough.
I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn. I heard the other day that less than
5 percent of Americans earn more than $100, 000 a year. A business consultant who specializes
in the medical trade was telling me how many doctors and dentists struggle financially. It was this
business consultant who gave me the phrase, "They are one skill away from great wealth."
There is an old saying that goes, "Job means" just over broke (***)" ". And unfortunately, I
would say that the saying applies to millions of people. Because school does not think financial
intelligence is intelligence, most workers" live within their means". They work and they pay the bills.
Instead I recommend to young people to seek work for what they will learn, more than what they
will earn.
When I ask the classes I teach, "How many of you can cook a better hamburger than McDonald"s?
" almost all the students raise their hands. I then ask, "So if most of you can cook a better hamburger,
how come McDonald"s makes more money than you?" The answer is obvious: McDonald"s is
excellent at business systems. The reason so many talented people are poor is because they focus
on bui1ding a better hamburger and know little or nothing about business systems. The world is filled
with talented poor people. They focus on perfecting their skills at building a better hamburger rather
than the skills of selling and delivering the hamburger.l. The author mentions the mechanic in the first paragraph to show that      .A. he is just one of the talented people
B. he is ready to help others
C. he has a sharp sense of hearing
D. he knows little about car repairing2. The underlined part in the third paragraph can be best replaced by       .A. spend more than they can afford
B. do in their own way
C. live in their own circle
D. live within what they earn3. Why do talented people earn so little according to the author?A. They don"t work hard enough.
B. They lack financial intelligence.
C. They don"t make full use of their talents.
D. They have no specialized skills.4. The success of McDonald"s lies in its       .A. skills at making hamburgers.
B. good business systems
C. talented workers
D. excellent service5. The main purpose of the author is to tell us       .A. how young people can find a satisfactory job
B. what schools should teach students
C. why so many talented people are poor
D. how McDonald"s makes much money

Honestly, since my daughter was born, I have thought a lot about how to raise a child. I once
heard a story that told about when a baby was born. The story said that when a baby was born,
a new master was born. The parents of that baby would become the servants. The question is:
Why? Based on my observation, this phenomenon is true. Most parents who don"t pay much
attention to their kids have difficulties with their kids" attitude.
I"ll make a comparison of how two families raise their children. The first one is a family with
three children. Both mother and father never say "No" to their children"s demands. As a result,
all of their children became stubborn and won"t listen to their parents" words, "We can"t."
The second family educated their children strictly from one year old to high school. The parents
never approved or agreed directly to give their children what they wanted. They always postponed
one or two days, even if they could afford it. Due to the way their parents educated them, these
children understood that if they wanted something, they had to wait or they had to make an effort first.
As a result, all the kids from the second family successfully graduated from university on time.
In my opinion, if we want to be successful parents and raise our children well, we have to start
disciplining them when they are toddlers but not wait until they become teenagers.

1. Why did the writer give two different stories in this passage?  A. To help prove his opinion about raising a child.
B. To list different ways that parents may take.
C. To criticize some parents" foolish action.
D. To prove that his way of education is right.2. What does the underlined word "postponed" in the third paragraph mean?A. Carried out at once.
B. Gave up.
C. Put off.
D. Made a decision.3. In the writer"s opinion, which of the following about raising a child is TRUE? A. Children should be respected once they were born.
B. Parents should educate their children as early as possible.
C. It is right time to educate their children when they are teenagers.
D. Children should be helped whenever they make mistakes.

阅读理解。     For the 17 years my life was very happy. Then the first sad thing happened. My mother became
very ill, and soon she knew that she was dying. Just before she died, she asked Elizabeth and me to
go to her room. She held our hands and said, "Victor and Elizabeth, my children, I"m very happy
because you love each other, and because one day you"ll get married. Everyone in the family loves
you, Elizabeth. Will you take
my place in the family, my dear? I can die happy if you look after them when I have gone."
My mother died and we were very sad, because we loved her dearly. Elizabeth was brave and
helped us; her sweet smile gave us some happiness in the unhappy days after my mother"s death.
The time came for me to go to university. I didn"t want to leave my sad family, but we all knew that
I should go. It as hard to leave, too, because the parents of my good friend Henry would not let
him go to university with me. So I had gone alone.
On my first day at university I met my teacher, Professor Waldman, who was one of the greatest
scientists in the world. He gave a wonderful talk to all the students who were starting at the university.
He ended his talk by saying, "Some of you will become the greatest scientists of tomorrow. You must
study hard and discover everything that you can. This is why God made you intelligent-to help other
people."
After the professor"s talk, I thought very carefully. I remembered the storm when I was 15; I
remembered how the lightning had destroyed the tree. From then on, I wanted to use electricity to
help people, and I wanted to discover the secrets of life. I decided to work on these two things.
I started to work the next day. I worked very hard and soon Professor Waldman and I realized
that I could learn to be a very good scientist.
The professor helped me very much, and other important scientists who were his friends helped
me, too. I was interested in my work and I did not take one day"s holiday during the next two years,
I did not go home, and my letters to my family were very short.
After two years, I had discovered many things and I built a scientific machine that was the best in
the university. My machine would help me answer the most important question of all. How does life
begin? Is it possible to put life into dead things? To answer these questions about life I had to learn
first about death. I had to watch bodies from the moment when they died and the warm life left them.
In the hospital and in the university, I watched the dying and the dead. Day after day, month after month,
I followed death, so it was a dark and terrible time.
I built a tall mast about 150 metres high, which is higher than the tallest building in the city, to catch
lightning and send the electricity down to my machine in the lab. I believed I could use that electricity to
give life to things that were dead.
Then one day, the answer came to me. Suddenly I was sure that I knew the secret of life.1. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A. Elizabeth married shortly after Victor"s mother died.
B. Elizabeth was a brave girl who loved Victor and gave him much help.
