great show for those who wait for it.
Preparations before the Tournament
An important thing you need to note down at this stage here is that once you start advertising an event,
the event has actually begun for the audience. At this stage, you need to decide what you are going to call
this event. You should make the name and the advertisement special, so that people will give them a
second look. Depending on your economic situation, you need to decide whether you want to hold this
event for amateurs or for experts. The next thing is to choose a proper place to hold the tournament.
Plan of Action during the Event
While the players are on court, you have to make sure that everything they might need is made
available to them. Since golf is a sport that is played in the open, guests should be given drinks from time
to time, preferably a drink of their choice. There should also be enough dustbins to keep the court clean.
The things the guests need, from extra equipment to drinks, should not be put off for any reason.
Announcement of some contests, lucky draws (抽奖) and prizes during the event will add to the
entertainment of the tournament. Another one of the successful golf tournament ideas is an auction
(拍卖) of some particular things during the game. You can get some equipment signed from the players.
Post Tournament Necessities
Now that the tournament is over, you need to keep a small after-party in the form of a dinner. During
this party, the guests can actually communicate with the players and congratulate those who won.

them on every high street. The charity shop is a British institution, selling everything from clothes to
electric goods, all at very good prices. You can get things you won"t find in the shops anymore. The thing
I like best about them is that your money is going to a good cause and not into the pockets of
profit-driven companies, and you are not damaging the planet, but finding a new home for unwanted
goods.
The first charity shop was opened in 1947 by Oxfam. The famous charity"s appeal to aid postwar
Greece had been so successful it had been flooded with donations (捐赠物). They decided do set up a
shop to sell some of these donations to raise money for that appeal. Now there are over 7,000 charity
shops in the UK. My favourite charity shop in my hometown is the Red Cross shop, where I always find
children"s books, all 10 or 20 pence each.
Most of the people working in the charity shops are volunteers, although there is often a manager who
gets paid. Over 90% of the goods in the charity shops are donated by the public. Every morning you see
bags of unwanted items outside the front of shops, although they don"t encourage this, rather ask people
to bring things in when the shop is open.
The shops have very low running costs: all profits go to charity work. Charity shops raise more than £100 million a year, funding (帮助) medical research, overseas aid, supporting sick and poor children,
homeless and disabled people, and much more. What better place to spend your money? You get
something special for a very good price and a good moral sense. You provide funds to a good cause and
tread lightly on the environment.

into that restaurant you recently tried, how did you know that it served great food?If you are like most
people on the planet, you want to lower your risk of a big ugly surprise so you asked people you trust to
refer to a business they trust. Marketers call this friendtofriend recognition of a business "wordofmouth"
advertising.
When you do a great job for your customer or a bad job, people are going to talk about your business. Unfortunately, because we humans seem to feel negative emotions more intensively than positive ones,
we"re more likely to tell more of our friends about bad experiences with a business than positive ones.
Understand this:Customers believe their own experience. You can"t make them believe that your company is wonderful when they felt they were treated badly.
So, to get positive wordofmouth going for your business in this servicebased economy, you"ve got to
do a really outstanding job for everyone, exactly.
And when you do, you build a great reputation. That takes time. But it forms a close link with your
customers in a way that no advertising and no promotional coupon (优惠券) ever could.
The good news is that because there are so many different businesses chasing after your customers"
money, people want to know whom they can trust. So people are going to be talking about you. Create
a free sales force for your business-an army of delighted customers who tell everyone that they know
how good your company is to do business with. That"s a great antidote (解毒剂) to defectionitis.

they? They"re the only two whale sharks at a North American aquarium (水族馆).
You can see Ralph and Norton at the world"s largest aquarium, the new Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.
The aquarium"s giant tanks hold eight million gallons of water and will be home to about 100,000 fish!
The aquarium was designed to look like a giant ship breaking through the waves. It has 60 different
habitats from the sea and five galleries (展馆),each with a different theme. About 2.4 million visitors are
expected to come each year ."We want to be the world"s most engaging aquarium." said Jeff Swanagan,
the aquarium"s executive director.
Ralph and Norton arrived in June,2005 from Taiwan. They were only 15 and 13 feet long, but they
may grow to be more than 40 feet long!Whale sharks are the world"s largest fish. Three fulltime vets will
work there to make sure that Ralph, Norton, and all of the aquarium"s sea life stay healthy .Students from
the University of Georgia will help run the aquarium and conduct research at the animal hospital.
The aquarium was paid for almost completely by a $200 million gift from Berne Marcus, cofounder of
the Home Depot Inc, and his wife, Billi."It"s going to be the most unique aquarium in the world," said
Marcus. Marcus said the aquarium was a "thank you" note to the city of Atlanta and the State of Georgia, where the Home Depot first opened for business.

Away from home, eating is more than just a way to keep your stomach full. It is a language all its own, and no words can say, "Glad to meet you … glad to be doing business with you ..." quite like sharing a
meal offered by your host.
Clearly, mealtime is not the time for you to say, "Thanks, but no." Acceptance of the food on your
plate means acceptance of the host, the country, and the company. So, no matter how difficult it may be
to swallow (吞咽), swallow. Or, as one experienced traveler says, "Travel with a cast-iron (铸铁的)
stomach and eat everything everywhere."
Often, the food offered represents proudly your host country"s eating culture. What would Americans
think of a French person who refused to take a bite of homemade apple pie or sirloin? Our discomfort
comes not so much from the thing itself; it comes from our unfamiliarity (不熟悉) with it. After all, an
oyster has remarkably the same look as a sheep"s eye; and a first look at a lobster would remind almost
anybody of a creature from a science fiction movie, not something you dip in butter and eat. By the way,
in Saudi Arabia sheep"s eyes are a famous dish and in parts of China it"s pig"s tails.
Can you refuse such food without being rude? Most experienced business travelers say no, at least
not before taking at least a few bites. It helps, though, to slice (切) any item very thin. This way, you
minimize (最小化) the taste and the reminder of where it came from. Or, "Swallow it quickly," as one
traveler recommends. "I still can"t tell you what sheep"s eyeballs taste like." As for dealing with taste, the
old line that "it tastes just like chicken" is often thankfully true. Even when the "it" is really rat or snake.
Another useful piece of advice is not knowing what you are eating. What"s for dinner? Don"t ask.
Avoid glancing into the kitchen or looking at English-language menus. Your host will be pleased that you
are eating the food he offers, and who knows? Maybe it really is chicken in that soup.
B. share the writer"s personal experiences
C. suggest ways to overcome a cultural barrier (障碍)
D. advise on how to politely refuse to eat foreign food
B. safety worries
C. not knowing much about it
D. the unfamiliar atmosphere
B. one should refuse strange food after a few bites
C. English-language menus are not always dependable
D. one needs a cast-iron stomach to travel in other cultures
B. greeting people with different dieting habits
C. judging chefs at an international food festival
D. getting someone to try an unpleasant meal
