解析

试题分析:文章讲述了一个人在等车时,由于没有地方坐,他去咖啡馆坐了一会,在这期间他从镜子里看表,最后耽误了搭车的故事。
小题1:细节理解题。根据短文第一段最后一句Tom looked around but there was no place for him to sit的描述可知,Tom进入车站咖啡厅的原因是他找不到可坐的座位。
Since then Tom has never liked mirrors的描述可知,Tom只在镜子里看过一次时钟。故应选B
小题5:细节理解题。联系上下文,本文主要讲述在镜子里看错表,从而导致耽误了搭车的故事,可知应选C。

举一反三
Dear Alice,
You really have two difficult questions here, so we’ll discuss them one at a time. Your problems at school may be a result of a number of things. You don’t say much about how these classmates get along with each other. It’s possible that all the students are feeling a little cautions(谨慎) in the first term.
It’s also possible that the others are unkind. If this is so, you have to find out why you are the class “outsider”.
In your letter you often offer to help others with their work. Is it possible that your classmates didn’t understand your offers? Could it seem that you were trying to “buy” friends with these offers?
Is it possible that you took no notice of your classmates when you had your good friends near you? They may have left hurt at that time. It may take a time for them to believe in you. If so, try to ask one classmate directly what the problem is. If you hear a negative(负面的) answer,at least you’ll know what to do.
Yours,
Shelia

We all, at one time or another , were like a rock star, singing and dancing along to our favourite song. Most of us have done this in our own room when we were kids or even when we grew up. Me? I love to do that when I drive! I turn on the radio, find a song that I can sing along, and soon my arms are in the air. I am moving along to the music. Most of the time, I do this on my way to work.
Yes, that is true. I will be in my nice work clothes in my car. Someone may look at me strangely or even laugh at me when I stopped at a traffic light. Personally I love to get lost in the music. That can lead me to share with you the importance of being silly!
The meaning of the word silly, according to the dictionary is : stupid, foolish and nonsensical. I know many people do not want to look foolish. So they are always serious in their life, but in fact that is really stupid.
No one is perfect, I repeat: no one is perfect. I don’t care how educated, how thin, how beautiful, how simple, how frugal(朴素的), how rich, and so on … No one is perfect! So why pretend(假装) to be something you are not?
Life is so short…_________, so why waste a single second on being so “perfect”?
When we were kids, we had no idea of fear and we had no care in the world so we could do things without worrying about how we appeared to others. However, as we grew up, we lost that kind of feeling.
So don’t be afraid to be silly. The next time you feel down, go and turn on your favourite song , sing and dance along just like there is no tomorrow. Or watch something that makes you laugh. Trust me, you will feel a whole lot better, and who doesn’t want to feel good.
小题1:While driving to work, the writer often _______.

Life is speeding up. Everyone is getting unwell. This may sound like someone would say today. But in fact,        unknown person who lived in Rome in AD(公元) 53 wrote it.
We all love inventions. They are exciting, amazing and can even change our lives. But have all these developments really improved the quality of our lives?
You’re rushing to finish your homework on the computer. Your mobile phone rings, a QQ          from your friend        on the screen, the         from the television is getting louder and louder. Suddenly the computer breaks        and you lose all your homework. Now you have to       up all night to get it done. How happy do you feel?
Inventions have speeded up our lives       much that people often feel stressed and tired. Why do you think people who live far       from noisy cities, who have no telephones, cars, even electricity(电) often       to be happy? Perhaps          they live simpler lives.
One family in the UK “went back in time” to see        life was like without all the inventions we have today. The grandparents,         their daughter and grandsons Tom, 10 and Jim, 7, spent 8 weeks in a 1940s house. They had no       machine, fridge, computer or mobile phones.
The grandmother, Linda said, “The more things you have, the more difficult life becomes.” The boys said they fought less. Probably because there was        to fight for, such as their computer. And they noticed that their grandmother had changed from       fashionable to one who liked cooking things.

When I was a child, my parents always told me that I should never talk to strangers. This was part of a whole list of things I should never do: Never accept food or candy from strangers, never get in a car with strangers, and so on.
But if we didn’t start a conversation with strangers, we’d never make new friends. We’d never get a job. We may miss the joy that comes from talking with strangers. And the more people you know, you more chances you can get.
The following passage offers you some advice on how to break the ice.
Don’t just stare at your shoes. Go and say “Hi” to that new guy. It will be easier to break the ice if you know more about different cultures.
