The famous little golden Oscar statues (塑像) weigh only 3.8 kilograms and are only 34.3 centimetres tall,but all film stars dream of winning one for their hard work.
This year,some of the Oscars went to American actor Sean Penn and South African actress Charlize Theron,and also to the animated film "Finding Nemo",which tells a touching story about a clown fish named Marlin who looks for his lost son Nemo.
The statues were given at the 76th annual Academy Awards held on February 29 at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood,Los Angeles,US.
For 75 years,the Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) have been the most famous film awards in the world.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the US began giving Oscars in 1929.There are Oscar awards for all parts of movie-making,including acting,directing and music.
Oscar,the golden statue handed out to the winners,looks like a knight (骑士) standing on a reel of film (一盘胶片) and holding a sword in his hands.
But how did the little statue get the name "Oscar"?A popular story says that an American librarian thought the statue looked just like his uncle,whose name was Oscar.The Academy began to call the statues "Oscars" in 1939.
