you meet is your mirror.
Mirrors have a very particular 1 . They reflect the image in front of them. Just as a 2 mirror
works as the vehicle to reflection, 3 do all of the people in our lives.
When we see something beautiful such as a flower garden, that garden 4 a reflection. When we
love someone, it"s a(n) 5 of loving ourselves. We have often heard things like "I love how I am when I"m with that person". That simply 6 into "I"m able to love me when I love that other person". 7 ,
when we meet someone new, we feel as though we "click". Sometimes it"s as if we"ve 8 each other
for a long time. That feeling can come from 9 similarities.
Just as the "mirror" or other people can be a positive reflection, it is more likely that we"ll 10 it when
it has a negative connotation (内涵). 11 , it"s easy to remember the times when we have met someone
we"re not particularly 12 about. We may have some criticism (批评) in our mind about the 13 . This
is especially true when we get to know someone with whom we would rather spend 14 time.
Often, when we 15 qualities in other people, ironically (讽刺地), it"s usually the mirror that"s 16
to us.
At times we meet someone 17 and feel distant disconnected, or disgusted. 18 we don"t want to
believe it, and it"s not easy or 19 to look further, It can be a great learning lesson to 20 what part
of the person is being reflected in you. It"s simply just another way to create more selfawareness.

University accommodation (住所) offices
Many university accommodation offices have their own list of registered landlords (房东).Others also
provide information on accommodation agencies and other housing organizations. The advantage of using
your university accommodation office is that you can get some support if you have a problem. The
disadvantage is that they are unlikely to have enough registered landlords to house all their students.
Property papers: Loot and Renting
Loot is an important source (来源) of information about private housing for corenters. The offers are
from private landlords, agencies and individuals looking for other corenters. They also have a website:
www.loot.com.The advantage of using Loot is that there are some excellent bargains. The disadvantage is
that there is no quality control over the offers.
Renting is another useful paper. The offers in this paper are mainly from accommodation agencies.
Their website is at www.renting.co.uk.
Accommodation agencies
The majority of rented accommodation in London is probably advertised through accommodation
agencies. The advantage of using accommodation agencies is that you will have access to a large number
of accommodations. A good agent will listen to your requirement and can save you time in looking for the
right accommodation. The disadvantage is that they will make a range of charges to potential renters.
Noticeboards
Around the universities you will find a number of noticeboards where offers of accommodation will be
posted. These will either be from landlords or from students. Some universities will also have online
noticeboards where students can advertise to other students. Advertisements from students can be an
excellent way to find accommodation. However, advertisements from landlords can be problematic.
Word of mouth
Some of the best housing in London is never advertised but is passed on from one group of students
to another by word of mouth .It might be that you can find out about good offers from final year students. However, don"t suppose that just because you have found out about housing from a friend it is necessarily going to be better than that found through any other source.
Family
Faced with the very high rents charged in London, some students and their parents will consider
buying as an alternative. In some cases this might be a good choice.
B. It gives you personal information about other corenters.
C. Their website is designed mainly for students.
D. There are some good bargains.
B. find cheap accommodation
C. get the right accommodation quickly
D. get free information about most accommodations
B. it helps you find some of the best housing never advertised
C. the final year students always offer better information
D. the landlords have little valuable information

Moreover, a great many relationships come under the general term "friendship". In all cases, two
people like one another and enjoy being together, but beyond that, the degree of closeness between them and the reasons for their interest in each other change greatly.
At the beginning, much depends on how people meet, and on good first impressions. As we get to
know people, 2 . Although these factors are not of the greatest importance, it is more difficult to have
a good relationship with people when there is a big difference in age and background.
Then, 3 . Friends will stand closer together and will spend more time looking at each other than
ordinary friends. Smiles and soft voices also express friendliness, and it is because they may give the
wrong signals that shy people often have difficulty making friends. A friendly look with a wrong facial
expression can turn into an unfriendly stare, and nervousness may be wrongly understood as unfriendliness.
Some relationships are a result of argument and discussion, but it is usual for close friends to have the
same ideas and beliefs, the same opinions and interests. The more closely involved people become, the
more they depend on each other. And 4 . Equally, friends have to learn to make allowances for each
other, to put up with annoying habits, and to accept differences in opinions.
In contrast with marriage, 5 . But the support and understanding that results from shared experiences and affections does seem to create a close and lasting relationship.
A. we are usually friends with only a few B. many factors can affect friendship and relationship C. people want to do friends favors and hate to let them down D. argument and discussion can improve personal relationships E. we consider things like age, race, looks, economic and social status, etc. F. we pay attention to actual behavior, facial expression, and the way a person speaks G. there are no friendship ceremonies to strengthen the relationship between two people |

My family and I lived across the street from Sout hway park since I was four years old. Then just last year the city put a chain link fence around the park and started bulldozing (用推土机推平) the trees and grass to make way for a new apartment complex. When I saw the fence and bulldozers, I asked myself, "Why don"t they just leave it alone?" Looking back, I think what sentenced the park to oblivion (被遗忘) was the drought (旱灾) we had about four years ago. Up until then, Southway Park was a nice green park with plenty of trees and a public swimming pool. My friends and I rollers kated on the sidewalks, climbed the trees, and swam in the pool all the years I was growing up. The park was almost like my own yard. Then the summer I was fifteen the drought came and things changed. There had been almost no rain at all that year. The city stopped watering the park grass. Within a few weeks I found myself living across the street from a huge brown desert. Leaves fell off the park trees, and pretty soon the trees started dying ,too. Next ,the park swimming pool was closed. The city cut down on the work force that kept the park, and pretty soon it just got too ugly and dirty to enjoy anymore. As the drought lasted into the fall, the park got worse every month. The rubbish piled up or blew across the brown grass. Soon the only people in the park were beggars and other people down on their luck. People said drugs were being sold or traded there now. The park had gotten scary, and my mother told us kids not to go there anymore. The drought finally ended and things seemed to get back to normal, that is, everything but the park. It had gotten into such bad shape that the city just let it stay that way. Then about six months ago I heard that the city was going to "redevelop" certain wornout areas of the city. It turned out that the city had planned to get rid of the park, sell the land and let someone build rows of apartment buildings on it. The chainlink fencing and the bulldozers did their work. Now we live across the street from six rows of apartment buildings. Each of them is three units high and stretches a block in each direction. The neighborhood has changed without the park. The streets I used to play in are jammed with cars now. Things will never be the same again.Sometimes I wonder, though, what changes another drought would make in the way things are today. |

A wellmade film offers a whole world of things to watch. First there are the story aspects-the plot, characters, dialogue and themes. Then there are the technical aspects-the camera work, cuttings and special effects. And there are many other things, like the credits, musical score and the acting. A wellmade film offers much more than you see in one viewing. Films are a means of communication. They can tell you things, just as newspapers do, or television, or any other means of communication. Sometimes they communicate important things to you, like ideas or lifestyles or ways of looking at the world. Sometimes people are aware of this, and sometimes not. The more you are aware of this, the better you are. Notice, for example, the way films sometimes affect fashion. A star dresses or wears her hair in a certain way, and suddenly everyone is imitating her. Boys in the 1950s could sometimes be seen wearing black leather jackets, idling (闲逛) on street corners and smoking cigarettes. They were imitating Marion Brando. His films taught them a certain way to behave. Films can also teach politics. In Star Wars, the heroes were a bunch of lovable incompetents fighting with guts (胆量) and not much else. They were, in fact, rather like the British in the early days of WW? . Their enemies, like the Nazis, had a big advantage in equipment and numbers of troops, and they were like the Nazis in discipline and heartlessness too. The whole film, in fact, was a rerun of WW?, and taught values like faith and love of liberty. This is all to the good, but the point is, did you notice it? |

3. It can be inferred from the passage that in his film, Marion Brando was ________. |
A. a motorist who always wore a black leather jacket B. a homeless man who died of excessive smoking C. a rebellious man during WW ? D. an idler who didn"t have any serious things to do |
4. Star Wars is a film________. |
