“My name’s Jim Shelley and I’m an addict(有瘾的人)…” With these words I began to 36 the problem, the problem of my telephone addiction. I used to call people 37 , from the moment I woke up to the time I went to sleep. I 38 to be phoned, I wanted to phone. Just one more call. It started socially-a few calls each day. It seemed 39 , just a quick chat. Gradually though, the 40 got worse. Soon it was 41 use, until, finally, addiction. And it began to affect(影响) my 42 . During the day I would disappear for 43 call. If I couldn’t make a call, I spent the whole time waiting for the phone to ring. Getting more and more 44 , in the end, I would ring someone, then someone else, 45 myself just one more call. I was phoning people and 46 messages to make sure 47 calls would see me through the day. I used to arrive at friends’ homes and before the door was closed, go straight for the phone with the 48“Is it OK if I just use the phone…?” At work, I became 49 when my fellow workers tried to 50 me from using the phone. And one day I hit my boss (with the phone). Finally, the police caught me 51 a phone box that had taken my last one pound coin, and I was 52 to see a psychiatrist(心理医生). I haven’t 53 a phone in the house for three weeks now, and it’s several days 54 I used a phone box. I try not to watch TV because there are 55 people on it making phone calls. My name is Jim Shelley and I am an addict.

now and then偶尔,有时;at home在家;at work在工作中;all the time始终。 小题1:A。 小题1:A。 小题1:A。 save sb. from救助/拯救某人脱离;protect sb. from保护某人免遭;stop sb. from阻止某人,使某人不做某事。 小题1:A。 since表示“自…… 小题1:A。 |

To all of you at Chinese love links. I am 44 years old and never married. I have always wanted to find that perfect someone that I dream about. For about the last five years I have almost given up the hope of ever finding the one I truly wish to spend the rest of my life with. I have always tried to be a nice guy. I had found your website some four or five months before. I did not know what to expect. I don’t know how to speak Chinese and never thought truly of how I was to an Asian woman. Well, I had a lot of replies from some very nice and pretty women. I had a hard time finding only a couple to write to. But one stood out from the rest. She was cute, nice and seemed to hold a lot of the same values as I do. In a short time I had decided to write only to her. We communicate via e-mails 2-3 times a day and phone calls once or twice a week. I went and met her and her family only a week ago. Her name is Yun and she lives in Nanning. I found Nanning to be one of the most beautiful cities I had ever been to. We had even decided to marry and bring her to the USA under the finance visa. Not only did she meet everything I had ever hoped to find in someone else but turned out to be what every woman should be like, at least the ones I have met. We plan to marry as soon as she is here and start a family together as neither of us has children but we both want them. So to anyone out there reading this, I can only say this: You may not find what you are looking for if you’re not honest with your partner and yourself. This site worked for me mostly because I was honest with something that I wanted in someone else. When I did find her, love can work even across the other side of the world, between language differences and cultural differences. I wish you all luck in finding your perfect match. I have finally found mine and wish to give all my thanks to those at Chinese love links to help make it happen. Sincerely yours, Arthur 小题1:We can infer from the letter that Chinese love links is a website to ____________.A.help foreigners to travel in China | B.help both Chinese and foreigners to find one they want to marry | C.help Chinese and foreigners make friends | D.receive letters from the USA | 小题2: Which of the following is true about Arthur’s story?A.He was sure of finding a Chinese woman as his wife at first. | B.He was determined to find a Chinese woman as his wife. | C.He almost lost hope in finding a perfect wife until he found Yun. | D.No women wrote to him before Yun. 3: Yun stood out from the rest because ________.A.she was a Chinese. | B.she had much in common with Arthur | C.other women stopped writing to Arthur | D.she was cute and nice and often phoned to Arthur | 小题4:Arthur thinks _________ is the most important in finding someone one wants to marry .A.being honest with the partner and oneself | B.help from the website | C.difference in languages and places | D.difference in cultures |

We Americans are wasteful people, not used to saving. Early settlers, our forefathers set us an example of wasting everything, for they thought nature’s resources were so plentiful that none of them ever imagined that natural materials would be used up in time. Within a few years of the first Virginia settlement, for example, pioneers burned down their houses when they were ready to move west. They burned down their houses with only one aim to get the nails(钉子)for future use. No one ever gave a thought to the priceless hardwoods that went up in smoke. As a people we destroy many valuable things that other people save. I noticed this when I was living in Britain. I received a letter from one England’s largest banks. It was enclosed in a used envelope(信封)that had been readdressed to me. Such a practice would be unthinkable in the United States. American banks, even the smallest, always use expensive stationery(信笺)with the names of all twenty - eight vice – presidents lists on side of the page. 小题1:According to the passage, we know the writer is ________ .A.a Chinese | B.a Japanese | C.an Englishman | D.an American | 小题2:The writer thought their forefathers ________ .A.set a good example | B.wasted many natural resources | C.knew natural resources would be used up in time | D.made the best use of natural materials | 小题3: Which of the following statements is wrong?A.The writer lives in Britain now. | B.American banks use expensive stationery. | C.Americans are not used to saving. | D.The writer’s forefathers burned down their houses in order to get the nails. 4:The purpose of the passage is to ________ .A.wish Americans not to waste | B.tell us the English are a good people | C.warn Americans against saving | D.encourage people to work hard. |

There are many fun, free activities that you can do as a family. All that is required is a bit of imagination and some time set aside for fun. And the best part is that these are the kind of memories a child will remember for a lifetime. Family game night Find out any of the games that are already around the house. Kids often get computer games for Christmas or birthdays, and would love to have a chance to play with their family. Or, make up some games of your own. “Charades” is a fun game to play that will challenge a child to use his/her imagination. Divide the family into teams and let each team come up with words that the other has to act out. ________________________ Pick some time for the family to sit down and come up with their own masterpiece. It doesn’t need to be just a drawing -- take some old magazines sitting around the house, let the kids cut out pictures and paste them into their own montage. Or, use items from nature. Let them use leaves, pine cones, twigs and whatever else they can find to create something from their imaginations. Family Picnic Taking the family for a picnic is a great way for some fun that doesn’t cost any money. If the weather is nice, take them to a park or playground and let the kids have a day of playing. Or, if it is the middle of winter and a foot of snow is on the ground, set up a picnic in the living room. Family Field Trip A family field trip doesn’t have to cost a dime. Ask a nearby farm if it would be alright to bring your kids out for a tour and to see some of the animals. Or take them to a park and make a scavenger hunt where they need to find certain items from nature. Ask a local business if you could bring the family for a tour to see how things work -- you might be surprised at the number of people who would be thrilled to share what they do with others, and it could be an interesting lesson for the kids. 小题1:We can learn from the passage that “charades” ________.A.is a computer game | B.is too difficult for children | C.involves acting out words | D.should be played by more than four people | 小题2: What is the best title to be put in the blank of part two? ____________.A.Family art time | B.Family gardening time | C.Family music time | D.Family cleaning time | 小题3:According to the passage, the family picnic____________.A.should be held in the middle of winter | B.can be held inside your house | C.will be very meaningful if held in offices | D.will cost much money if held on a farm | 小题4:Who might be most interested in this passage? _________.A.Parents | B.Teachers | C.Farmers | D.Employers | 小题5:The writer wrote this passage mainly to _____________.A.encourage children to use imagination. | B.share precious family memories | C.discuss young children’s interests | D.suggest fun activities to families |
