In today"s Internet age, online games can be a change from the pressure of school and work. However, they can also cause problems and unhealthy addictions. This is most clearly seen in the example of South Korea. This country has the world"s highest percentage of high-speed Internet services. It has also a high number of game players who are addicted to online games.
In 2004, a young man died after playing online games almost nonstop for 86 hours. A 12-year-old boy stole $16,000 from his father to continue online games which he could not get away from. Such problems are spreading to other parts of Asia as well. In 2005, it was reported that about 80 percent of China"s 13.8 million online game players were under 25.
And many of these were said to be addicted. Such numbers point toward a growing problem among Chinese youth.
Dr. Sue-Huei Chen, a psychologist (心理学家), discovered some signs of at-risk people. Such people often go online to escape from their problems. And they usually have no friendship or good social skills. They feel the need to spend more and more time online, so they may be absent from school or family. A school in Nanjing plans to order Korean-style school uniforms (校服) for students, but parents were against the move, believing that the new uniforms looked too good and would encourage early romances among the students.
Parents: “My daughter was so excited about the Korean-style uniform, saying it’s her dream to wear a miniskirt to school every day,” a mom said. “My daughter also called her classmates to talk about how handsome the boys looked in the uniforms! If the students wear such beautiful uniforms, how can they concentrate on their studies?”
School: We had to stop the plan because many parents were strongly against it. Some parents thought it was just a way for the school to make money, and others thought the new uniforms would take students’ attention away from their studies.
Students: The students were very disappointed about the school’s final decision. They thought the sportswear uniforms made them look dull. They said the Korean uniforms had many advantages such as raising interest in class and lifting confidence.
As for concerns about romance, the students believe that love is love and has no relationship to the uniforms.
The Department of Education: The schools can choose their own styles. Either sportswear or other uniforms are OK. Currently, most middle and elementary schools in Nanjing have sportswear uniforms.
Expert: Fashionable school uniforms can increase students’ interest in learning.
Parents don’t need to worry too much about early romances. Today’s primary and middle school students have strong personalities and their appreciation of beauty is rapidly forming. A fashionable uniform can develop their sense of belonging to the school and reduce their resistance to the school’s management.
But we don’t have to follow Korean or Japanese styles. We should design our own Chinese style uniforms.
63. Which of the following is NOT the parents’ reason for being against Korean-style school uniforms?
A. The uniforms will encourage early romances.
B. It is a way for the school to make money.
C. The new uniforms don’t wash well.
D. The new uniforms will affect the students’ studies.
64. Students think the new uniforms will________.
A. make them have good taste in fashion B. make them feel confident
C. make them feel proud of their school D. reduce their fear of teachers
65. The opinion of the expert is to________.
A. forbid the students to wear fashionable uniforms
B. encourage the students to wear sportswear uniforms
C. design uniforms in a Chinese style
D. wear new uniforms in a foreign style
66. We can infer from the passage that_________.
A. school uniforms are mostly blue or black
B. few students are willing to wear school uniforms
C. school uniforms are a waste of money
D. schools are encouraged to choose their own uniforms

Are you happy? Do you remember a time when you were happy? Are you seeking happiness today?
Many have sought a variety of sources for their feelings of happiness. Some have put their heart and efforts into their work.Too many have turned to drugs and alcohol.Meanwhile, untold numbers have looked for it in the possession of expensive cars, exotic(异国的)vacation homes and other popular “toys”. Most of their efforts have a root in one common fact: people are looking for a lasting source of happiness.
Unfortunately, I believe that happiness escapes from many people because they misunderstand the journey of finding it. I have heard many people say that, “I’ll be happy when I get my new promotion,” or “I’ll be happy when I lose that extra 20 pounds.” It is dangerous because it accepts that happiness is a “response” to having, being or doing something.
In life, we all experience stimulus(激励) and response.Today, some people think that an expensive car is stimulus.Happiness is a response.A great paying job is stimulus.Happiness is a response.A loving relationship is stimulus.Happiness is a response. This belief leaves us thinking and feeling:“I’ll be happy when…”
It has been my finding that actually the opposite is true.I believe that happiness is a stimulus and response is what life brings to those who are truly happy. When we are happy, we tend to have more success in our work. When we are happy, people want to be around us and enjoy loving relationships. When we are happy, we more naturally take better care of our bodies and enjoy good health.Happiness is not a response but a stimulus.
Happiness is a conscious choice we make every day of our lives. For unknown reason to me, many choose to be painful, unsuccessful and angry most of the time.Happiness is not something that happens to us after we get something we want—we usually get things we want AFTER we choose to be happy.
61.From the second paragraph, we know too many people______.
A.are not happy when they work hard
B.are not happy when they drink or take drugs
C.are happy when they possess their own expensive cars
D.all desire exotic vacation homes
62.Generally speaking, most people feel happy because______.
A.they think happiness is rooted in their deep heats
B.they get what they want to have
C.they get a great paying job
D.they get an expensive car
63.Which f the following is right according to the author?
A.If you want to get what you want, you first choose to be happy.
B.We should try to get more and then we’ll be happy.
C.Most people today are happy.
D.Work is a necessary part in our daily life.
64.From the viewpoint of the author, happiness is______.
A.based on our needs B.unconditional C.out of reach D.linited

Dangerous Sports
Around the world more and more people are taking part in danger ous sports and activities.Of course, there have always been people who have looked for adventure—those who have climbed unknown parts of the world or sailed in small boats across the greatest oceans. Now, however, there are people who seek an immediate thrill, a risky activity, which may only last a few minutes or even seconds.
I would consider bungee jumping to be a good example of such an activity. You jump from a high place(perhaps a bridge or a hot-air balloon) 200 meters above the ground with an elastic(有弹性的) rope tied to your feet. You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is said that about 2 million people around the world have now tried bungee jumping. Other activities which most people would say are as risky as bungee jumping include jumping from tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high cliffs.
Why do people take part in such activities as these? Some psychologists suggest that it is because life in modern societies has become safe and boring. Not very long ago, people’s lives were constantly in danger. They had to go out and hunt for food, diseases could not easily be cured, and there was a continuous battle for survival.
Nowadays, according to many people, life offers little excitement. They live and work in comparatively safe environments; they buy food in shops; there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they become ill.The answer for some of these people is to look for danger in activities such as bungee jumping.

A.Dangerous Sports: What and Why
B.The Boredom of Modern Life
C.Bungee Jumping: Is It Really Dangerous.
D.The Need for Excitement

B.are climbing the highest mountains
C.are coming close to death in sports

Does this situation seem familiar to you? Your English is progressing well, the grammar is now familiar, the reading comprehension is no problem, you are communicating quite fluently, but: Listening is STILL a problem! First of all, remember that you are not alone. Listening comprehension is probably the most difficult job for almost all learners of English as a foreign language. The most important thing is to listen as often as possible. The first step is to find listening resources. The Internet is really a useful tool for English students. You can download The RealPlayer from RealMedia.com. The RealPlayer allows you to use the Internet like a radio station.
Once you have begun to listen on a regular basis, you might still be frustrated (懊恼) by limited understanding. What should you do?
Here is some of the advice I give my students:
●Accept the fact that you are not going to understand everything.
●Stay relaxed when you do not understand — even if you continue not to understand for a long time.
●Do not translate what you hear into your native language.
●Listen for the general idea of the conversation. Don’t concentrate on detail until you have understood the main ideas.
I remember the problems I had in understanding spoken German when I first went to Germany. In the beginning, when I didn’t understand a word, I insisted on translating it in my mind. This method usually resulted in confusion. Then, after the first six months, I discovered two extremely important facts. Firstly, translating creates a wall between the listener and the speaker. Secondly, most people repeat themselves constantly. By remaining calm, I noticed that — even if I didn’t pay much attention I could usually understand what the speaker had said.
56. The best way to improve our listening is to _____.
A. practice as much as possible
B. find as many listening resources as possible
C. use the Internet like a radio station
D. speak naturally and read as much as possible
57. Which of the following is a good habit when listening?
A. Try to understand everything. B. Try to get the main ideas.
C. Pay much attention to details. D. Translate each word in your mind.
58. Why did the writer mention his / her experience in Germany?
A. To prove the importance of translating.
B. To show the problems of speaking a foreign language.
C. To tell us the importance of staying calm.
D. To point out an ineffective method of listening.
59. The underlined part “a wall” in the last paragraph refers to “_____”.
A. a communication barrier B. culture shock
C. language conflict D. a little misunderstanding
B
King Solomon, the most powerful and the most respected Israeli king, once said, “Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value a man who speaks the truth.” He wrote a book called Proverbs, which is part of the Bible and studied carefully even today.
There was a college graduate in Wuhan who shared his own experience about being truthful. It is a good lesson for everyone who reads of his experience.
Mr. Lou went to work for a factory making electrical machines. On the first day of his job, he accidentally broke an electrical machine because of his inexperience. Since it was very expensive, it caused Mr. Lou to become frightened about what his boss might say to him. The machine was worth his six months’ salary.
He decided to try and repair it. After working on it for about 2 hours, he could make it function, but it didn’t work as well as it should.
After spending a restless night, Mr. Lou felt he must tell his boss the truth. The next morning, he showed the broken machine to his boss nervously, for he didn’t know what the result would be. To his great surprise, the boss praised him for being truthful and even later gave him a rise.
Mr. Lou never forgot this dramatic experience. He had to make the choice of hiding his mistake by saying nothing or of telling the truth. The boss had found an honest new employee who would prove later to be of great value to the company.
Being honest makes a person worthy of trust, which is so important for a family, a company, and even a country.
60. The underlined part “honest lips” (in Paragraph 1) most probably refer to “_____”.
A. people who speak the truth B. lips of honest people
C. people loyal to their king D. lips of people loyal to the king
61. What did Mr. Lou do first after he broke the electrical machine?
A. He hid it in a secret place. B. He reported it to the boss at once.
C. He repaired it himself. D. He replaced it with a used one.
62. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Mr. Lou was excited and happy to have the machine repaired.
B. Mr. Lou told the boss the truth in order to get a rise later.
C. The boss was disappointed and sad about the broken machine.
D. The boss thought honest employees were of great value to the company.
63. By telling the story of Mr. Lou, the author wants to show that _____.
A. mistakes can sometimes bring good luck to a person
B. being truthful is a most important character of a person
C. employees should always be careful with their work
D. experience is important for an employee to do his work well
