阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从各题的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
A man walks into a doctor’s office. He has a cucumber (黄瓜) up his nose, a carrot in his left ear and a banana in his right ear. “What"s the matter with me?” he asks the doctor. The doctor replies, “You’re not eating properly.”
This is a popular joke among British school children. It shows Britain"s famous dry and satirical (讽刺的) way of seeing the funny side of life. People say this unique sense of humor is one of Britain"s national characteristics.
The British sense of humor is different from other countries because it is often more negative. When it comes to making the British laugh, there is nothing that works better than a socially inappropriate (不恰当的) joke. It reflects the culture where mocking (嘲弄) is part of everyday life.
While most Britons don’t take these jokes too seriously, foreigners often don’t understand them. A recent survey found that most foreigners who visited Britain think the British are “unfriendly and have almost no sense of humor”.
Are the British just not as funny as they think they are? Leo McKinstry, a British journalist, thinks the British are funny. “Accusing the British of having no sense of humor is like telling Rolls-Royce (劳斯莱斯) that its cars are cheap and not good in quality,” he says.

Teenagers today live in a very competitive world. It is more important than ever to succeed at school if you hope to have a chance in the job market afterwards. It’s no wonder that many young people worry about letting down their parents, their classmates and themselves. In trying to please everyone, they take on too many tasks until it becomes harder and harder to balance homework, parties, sports activities and friends. The result is that young people suffer from stress.
There are different ways of dealing with stress. Everyone knows that caffeine, whether it is in the form of coffee or soft drinks, keeps you awake and active. But caffeine is a drug which can become addictive (上瘾). In the end, like other drugs, caffeine only leads to more stress. A better way to deal with stress is to exercise. Research has proved that physical exercise is a good release for stress, because it increases certain chemicals in the brain which calm you down. Making sure you get enough sleep is also an important way of avoiding stress and of staying healthy and full of energy. Another way to avoid stress is to manage your time effectively. It is better to do a few tasks really well than lots of tasks badly. Know your limits and try not to take on too much. Finally, if it all gets beyond your control, don’t panic or get hysterical (歇斯底里). Find the time to sit down quietly and breathe deeply for ten to twenty minutes. Do this regularly, and it will help you calm down.

Five Happiness Secrets For Tough Times
Sonja Lyubomirsky, an author, has researched the science of happiness for years.
Here are her tips to help you cope with a bad economy, and increase your bursts of happiness throughout the day.
61.________
“You could spend a lot of time thinking deeply,” says Lyubomirsky.“But that just makes you feel even more pessimistic, more out of control, and affects your self esteem.Your relationships will suffer and your job performance will suffer.”
Get rid of pessimism. One of the most effective ways to cope when things are difficult is to adopt a positive thinking strategy.“What can I learn from this? Times are tough, I’ve been furloughed at work, but I can spend more time with the kids, adopt a new hobby, or learn a new set of skills.”
62.________
Now more than ever we need each other to survive.Lyubomirsky found that doing good things for friends, family, or strangers can make you happier.Think of practical, everyday gestures that can make someone’s life a little bit easier. For example, Lyubomirsky says, “Maybe now many of us can’t afford to take a cab to the airport, so offer to give a friend a ride.”
63.________
You don’t need an expert to tell you that relationships are critical to happiness.
Not being the bread-winner anymore or not being able to fulfill your kid’s needs can weigh down hard on your family life. But the trick is to stop feeling guilty and focus on caring for your loved ones.
“I was at a psychology conference where an expert was talking about the effects of this economy on families and how parents can’t afford to buy their kids luxuries like toys anymore,” says Lyubomirsky.“But what they don’t realize is that kids don’t care about toys — what they care about is parents being grumpy and taking it out on them.”
64.________
“If you find a happy person you will find a project,” says Lyubomirsky.“Happy people all have goals they care about.”
Commit yourself to a project – whether it is a business you want to start or a dance you want to learn. But it’s also important to remember to be flexible in these times.
Don’t get frustrated if circumstances are stopping you from meeting your goals.Adopt and change!
“If your spouse has lost their job you might have to change your goal,” says Lyubomirsky.“Or you might have to learn a whole new skill for a new job.”
65.________
When times are tough, it’s easy to get skip your regular workouts in favor of moping in front of the TV and eating a bag of chips.Your thinking is “I have more important things to worry about right now than looking good.”
But carve out a small part of your day to give your body some TLC.It will go a long way in boosting your happiness.“Even if you can’t afford to go to the gym,”
Lyubomirsky says, “take time out to exercise at home.”

阅读下面短文, 请根据短文后的要求进行答题(请注意问题后的字数要求)。
〔1〕The harmful effects on children were summed up last year in a report by the National Research Council and Institute of Medicine. Problems begin early, as the infants of depressed mothers cry more than other babies. They have greater fear of strangers and less tolerance for frustration. Starting in preschool and across all stages of childhood, they have more behavior problems at school and higher rates of depression and anxiety disorders.
〔2〕By adolescence, children with depressed parents have poorer social relations than the teens of parents________, and they’ re more likely to be dependent on alcohol and drugs. Depression in parents also is linked to more behavior problems at school and higher rates of depression and anxiety disorders, according to studies in the report.
〔3〕And some harmful effects of growing up with a depressed parent appear to remain intoadulthood. A 20-year study on kids of depressed parents found that those with depressed parents suffered about three times the rate of anxiety disorders and depression by their 30s, and they were in poorer health than peers and much more likely to be dependent on drugs and alcohol. The study, believed to be the longest ever done, was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry in 2006. These effects may not only be longlasting but also farreaching. Serious depression affects about one in five American parents, and 15.6 million children live with an adult who has had major depression in the last year. 
〔4〕As knowledge about the effects of parental depression has grown, so too has research into how to fight those effects. Studies suggest, for example, that changing destructive parenting practices and teaching children good coping strategies can make a big, positive difference in kids.
