In my long years of teaching, I often ask my student to read the texts until they can recite them, and I tell them that recitation is an important part of their homework. However, some of my students are tired of doing so, thinking that it is both hard and useless. They argue that it takes a long time to recite a text from memory and text itself never appears in a test paper.
In my opinion, it naturally takes time to recite a text, but it is worth doing so. When you are able to recite a text, you are sure to be familiar with the words and expressions. When you need them in reading or writing or doing exercises, they will come to your mind quickly, and so you will give quick response to all kinds of language situation. How can we say that it is useless?
Besides, many students complain that they soon forget what they were once able to recite. This is true, but you don’t need to worry. While you are reading and forgetting the texts, your language level is being raised. Sure you don’t remember your Chinese texts that you once read in the primary school, but now you are able to read novels and newspaper. So, recitation of the texts will help you improve your language ability.

A.But they don’t like to do so.

A.The English teacher tries his best to help them with English.
B.The English teacher is very kind to them.
C.The English teacher asks them to do something useless.
D.The English teacher should let them study on their own.
63. According to the text, which of the following is correct?
A.The teacher thinks the students are too naughty to learn English well.
B.The students think they spend a lot of time in reciting the texts and get nothing.
C.The students say that they often forget the words.
D.The students take no interest in English.
64. When the students are against his suggestion, the writer_______.
A.often criticizes them

Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing . I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds’ singing, but as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to quit climbing. Only there at the top, can you see all of the nice things, just like in life.”

Scientists have recently discovered that mothers tend to hold their baby on the left. Of 255 right-handed mothers, 83% held the baby on the left. And out of 32 left-handed women, 78% held the baby on the left. As a control, women were watched coming from supermarkets carrying baby-sized bags; the bags were held with no side preference. Then, dental patients were given a large rubber ball to hold during treatment. The majority held the ball to their left side, even when it interfered with the dentist"s activities. This suggested that in times of stress objects are held against the left side.
At that point something clearly contrary was observed. A large number of mothers who brought their premature babies to a clinic were seen to hold their babies against their right side.
So, 115 mothers who had been separated from their babies for 24 hours after birth were observed for holding response. The experimenters presented the baby directly to midline of the mother"s body, and noted how she held the baby. 53% placed the baby on the left and 47% on the right. And it was also noted that the mothers of the group who had held their baby on the left had already had a baby from which they had not been separated after birth.
Left-handed holding enables the baby to hear the heartbeat. In order to discover whether hearing the heart has a beneficial effect on the baby, the sound of a human hear-beat was played to102 babies in a New York nursery for 4 days. A control group of babies was not exposed to hear-beats. The babies in the heart-beat group gained more weight and cried far less than the babies in the control group.

While many young celebrities, especially pretty women, are unwilling to talk about their humble origins, Lu Yan is never too shy to talk about her hometown a small village in northern Jiangxi Province. Surrounded by high mountains, silver stone mining is the major source of wealth in the town where she was born in 1981. When she goes home to visit, she has to take a train from the provincial capital Nanchang for more than an hour, then change to a bus for another hour and a half.
Lu is the eldest of three siblings. "We broke the family planning policy, because village people always want a son," she said smiling. It meant more to her than all the haute couture(高级时装设计)she owned later.
When she graduated from middle school, the 16-year-old Lu was 1.78 metres high. She left for Nanchang to study accounting. "My parents thought the major would help me find a job," she said. Frank Woolworth was born in Rodman, New York., in 1852. His family were very poor farmers, and there was never enough to eat. Frank decided he did not want to be farmer. He took a short business course, and went to work as a salesman in a large city.
Woolworth realized he had a natural skill for showing goods to attract people’s interest, but he soon learned something more important. One day his boss told him to sell some odds and ends (小商品 ) for as much as he could get. Frank put all these things on one table with a sign which said FIVE CENTS EACH.
