One woman in nine will develop breast cancer (乳腺癌) over her lifetime. However, a healthy diet can reduce your risk of developing the disease by 40 to 60 percent. Generally speaking, eating more vegetables can reduce your risk of developing breast cancer by 60 percent. Vegetables like cabbage are rich in fiber (纤维), can lower your risk of developing breast cancer. To get the most from their goodness, it’s recommended that you eat at least three to four cups of these vegetables per week. It’s the oleic acid (油酸) contained in olive oil. American scientists conducting laboratory research have observed that oleic acid has a beneficial effect on breast cancer cells. Olive oil is the richest source of this acid, so whenever possible, use it in place of butter. Eating fruit is another excellent way to help prevent the development of breast cancer. In fact, women who do eat fruit are six percent less likely to develop the disease. The American Institute for Cancer Research considers berries (浆果类) (blueberries, strawberries, etc.) to be powerful for breast cancer fighters. It’s the lycopene (番茄红素), found in great quantities in tomatoes, that can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. The lycopene found in canned tomatoes is more readily absorbed by the body than that contained in fresh ones, so add tomato juice, paste, and sauce to your diet. As a result of various studies, the American Institute for Cancer Research has concluded that components (成分) found in green tea can help halt the development of cancerous tumours (瘤) and even prevent them from appearing in the first place. Three cups a day will help you get the benefits of green tea. 小题1:What does the author mainly tell us? How to cure breast cancer by eating healthy foods. The 92-year-old, thin, calm and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o’clock, even though she is nearly blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the hall of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she walked slowly to the elevator, I provided a true description of her tiny room, including the old sheets that had been hung on her window. “I love it,” she said with the happiness of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. “Mrs. Jones, you haven’t seen the room…just wait.” “That doesn’t matter,” she replied. “Happiness is something you decide ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn’t depend on how the furniture is arranged. It’s how I arranged my mind. I have already decided to love it. It’s a decision I make every morning when I wake up. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I’ll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I’ve stored away.” She went on to explain, “Old age is like a bank account. You take what you’ve put in. So, my advice to you would be to put in a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories. Thank you for your part in filling my memory bank.” And with a smile, she said, “All my memories are happy ones.” Mrs. Jones was always happy in the nursing home and she died at the age of 108. 小题1:We can infer from the passage that the author________.A.is one of Mrs. Jones’ children | B.is a relative of Mrs. Jones | C.works in the nursing home | D.is the owner of the nursing home | 小题2:The room in which the old lady will live________.A.is very comfortable | B.is fairly big | C.isn’t well equipped | D.is equipped with new furniture | 小题3:Mrs. Jones was very happy when told about her room because she________.A.couldn’t see what her room was like | B.thought the nursing home was her home | C.would have to live in the nursing home | D.had already made up her mind to be happy | 小题4: Which of the following words can best describe Mrs. Jones?A.Proud. | B.Pleasant. | C.Determined | D.Honest |

Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the best. For example, to absorb heat from the sun to heat water, you need large, flat, back surfaces. One way to do that is to build those surfaces specially, on the roofs of buildings. But why go to all that trouble when cities are full of black surfaces already, in the form of asphalt(柏油) roads ? Ten years ago, this thought came into the mind of Arian de Bondt, a Dutch engineer. He finally persuaded his boss to follow it up. The result is that their building is now heated in winter and cooled in summer by a system that relies on the surface of the road outside. The heat-collector is a system of connected water pipes. Most of them run from one side of the street to the other, just under the asphalt road. Some, however, dive deep into the ground. When the street surface gets hot in summer, water pumped through the pipes picks up this heat and takes it underground through one of the diving pipes. At a depth of 100 metres lies a natural aquifer(蓄水层) into which several heat exchangers(交换器)have been built. The hot water from the street runs through these exchangers, warming the groundwater, before returning to the surface through another pipe. The aquifer is thus used as a heat store. In winter, the working system is changed slightly. Water is pumped through the heat exchangers to pick up the heat stored during summer. This water goes into the building and is used to warm the place up. After performing that task, it is pumped under the asphalt and its remaining heat keeps the road free of snow and ice. 小题1:Which of the following is true according to the first two paragraphs ? Arian de Bondt got his idea from his boss. Large, flat, black surfaces need to be built in cities. The Dutch engineer’s system has been widely used. Heat can also be collected from asphalt roads. 小题2:For what purpose are the diving pipes used ?A.To absorb heat from the sun. | B.To store heat for future use. | C.To turn solar energy into heat energy. | D.To carry heat down below the surface. | 小题3: From the last paragraph we can learn that __________.A.some pipes have to be re-arranged in winter | B.the system can do more than warming up the building | C.the exchangers will pick up heat | D.less heat may be collected in winter than in summer | 小题4:What is most likely to be discussed in the paragraph that follows ?A.What we shall do if the system goes wrong. | B.What we shall do if there are no asphalt roads. | C.How the system cools the building in summer. | D.How the system collects heat in spring and autumn. |
