There is a story telling of a religious master who is said to be capable of moving mountains. A man came to him asking for a demonstration (证明). The master sat in front of a mountain for a moment, then went to the other side of it and declared the end of the demonstration. All the audiences were greatly puzzled and begged him for an explanation. He said, “There has been a way of moving mountains; what you can do is to go to the mountain if it doesn’t come.”
One of my friends, though with the makings of a merchant, was bent on being a painter. He resigned from office and devoted himself entirely to painting at home. Several years, however, saw no progress in this regard.
A painful retrospection (回顾) brought him to his senses. He made up his mind to take up business in place of painting. It took him only a few years to become a rich businessman. Meanwhile he spent his spare time exchanging experience and skills in painting. His works finally won acclamation by expert painters and were on sale in art gallery and grand hotels. He had his collections published and his dream of becoming a painter came true at last.

答案

Get yourself changed when facing something unchangeable
The passage tells us that a religious master and a painter tried to change themselves when they were faced with something unchangeable, and finally they both successfully achieved their original goals.
I’m in favor of the idea that we should change our attitude when we find the environment unchangeable. The stories remind me of my cousin who used to complain about English learning. He thought it unnecessary to learn a foreign language and ignored it at all. As a result, he fell far behind the others in the exams. Thanks to his English teacher, he developed a good attitude after realizing how important it is to learn English well. He made up his mind to take every opportunity to improve his English. Believe it or not, a year later , he gradually caught up with others.
As far as I’m concerned, only when we get ourselves changed when facing something unchangeable can we get what we want and become successful.

Growing up to Be Independent
Growing up is not always easy. When facing difficulties, courage and a spirit of independence can be morn useful than crying for help. That"s what Hong Zhanhui"s story of growing from boy to man with family hardships tells us.
Hong who was born 1982 in a poor family in Xinhua County, Henan Province is now a hero in people"s mind. When he was only 11, his father became mentally ill and one day came back with an abandoned baby girl. A year later, Hong"s mother and younger brother both left home because of poverty and pressure from his sick father. Their burdens fell onto the 12-year-old"s shoulders: to treat his father"s illness, bring up the adopted sister Chenchen, and to go on to study.Hong didn"t give up. Since a young age, he has worked in part-time jobs to feed his family. At the same time, he has studied at college. To take care of Chenchen, he worked hard to rent a room
near his campus for her, and send her to school. After Hong"s story went public, people were moved to tears by his unselfishness. Hard as his life sas, Hong didn"t abandon his father and the adopted sister, because they needed his help. With his hard-won money, he even aided other students struggling against misfortunes.
Hong"s story shows that with love and willpower, no hardship can defeat a person but himself. So when facing difficulties, don"t complain about bad luck. Consider what morn you could do for your family and society and you"ll find the world smiling back.

第二节读写任务 (共1小题,满分25分)
阅读下面的一封信,然后按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的回信。
Dear Abby,
Last month my son was told that he no longer has to attend weekend classes at his school.  Since then he spends his weekends going out with his friends to play sports or watch movies.  When he is at home all he seems to do is surf the Internet or play silly computer games. I really think he is just wasting his time having fun when he should be studying. I sometimes ask him if he has homework or extra study to do, but he always says that he has already completed it all. This change makes me very worried. I feel that this free time is encouraging him to be lazy. He isn’t studying long enough and this will reduce his chances of getting into university. I also think it will cause problems when he begins to work because he will not be able to concentrate well and will think more of having fun than his job. I have considered going to the school principal and asking him to change their decision but my son says if I do so his classmates will laugh at him. I don’t want to embarrass my child but I don’t want him to fall behind either.
Please help.
