Have you ever complained why life is so tiring? Does the sky sometimes seem dark to you? Are your studies sometimes not successful? Well, friends, cheer up and smile all the time. If you see the world with your warm heart, you"ll find that the whole world smiles to you. While in school, sometimes you are tired of your lessons, but have you ever noticed the happy smile on your teacher"s face when you did a good job? One day it is fine. Just before you want to go out, it suddenly starts to rain. Maybe you would feel very sad and start complaining about the weather. But dear friends, why don"t you sit down and listen to the free concert that the nature offers you? And with the timely (及时的) rain, crops in the fields will grow better and better and farmers will have a food harvest. Although everyone wants to succeed in what he tries to do, sometimes failure (失败) can"t be avoided (避免). I think failure is not terrible and the terrible thing is that we are afraid of it and give up hope. When we face failure, we must be confident in ourselves, draw a useful lesson from it and try our best to finish what we have decided to do. As a popular saying goes, "Failure is the mother of success." Attitude (态度) decides everything. With an optimistic (乐观的) attitude life is easy and pleasant. Let"s smile to whatever we meet and the whole world will smile to us.

Have you ever had problems in your life and don"t know how to be happy? If so, you will find "Being a Happy Teenager" written by an Australian writer Andrew Matthews useful. In his book, Matthews tells us how to have a happy life and answers the questions of teenagers. There are many subjects, such as parents and friends, and the book says we should stop being angry and should forgive (宽恕). The book tells us some useful skills, such as how to put what you have learned into pictures of your mind to make your memory better. Many teenagers think that happiness comes from a good exam result or praise (赞扬) from other people. But you can still be happy when there are no such "good" things. Success comes from a good attitude (态度). If you learn from problems, you will have success in the future. Some school students have problems, such as being too tall or too short. But Matthews tells us that happiness comes form thinking in a positive (积极的) way. If you are tall, people notice you and you can get a better view (视线) at the movie; if you are short, your clothes and shoes take less room in your bedroom! This is Matthews" most important lesson: You choose to be happy! 1. What"s the name of the book written by Andrew Matthews? __________________________________________________ 2. Growing up to be independent (独立) Growing up is not always easy. When facing difficulties, courage arid a spirit of independence can be more useful than crying for help. That"s what Hong Zhanhui"s story of growing from boy to man with family hardships tell us. Hong was born in 1982 in a poor family in Yihua County, Henan province. When he was only 11, his father became mentally (精神上) ill and one day came back with an abandoned (被抛弃的) baby girl. A year later, Hong"s mother and younger brother both left home because of being poor and pressure from his ill father. Their burdens (负担) fell onto the l2-year-old"s shoulders: to treat his father"s illness, bring up the adopted (领养的) sister Chenchen, and to go on to study,Hong didn"t give up. Since a young age, he has worked in part-time jobs to feed his family. At they same time, he has studied at college. To take care of Chenchen, he worked hard to rent a room near his campus for her, and send her to school. After Hong"s story went public, people were moved to tears by his selflessness (无私), Hard as his life was, Hong didn"t abandon his father and the adopted sister because they needed his help. With his hard-won money, he even helped other students struggling against misfortunes (厄运). Today when many tend to Worry more about their own happiness, Hong"s deeds remind us of what we usually neglect (忽略): love and care for others. Without these, none of us could survive Hong turned down donations from others. He said he felt encouraged by kind offers but he could depend on his own work. Short of money to buy food, the boy climbed tall trees to get birds" eggs for his baby sister. He walked two hours at weekends to buy different things to sell around his school to make money. Through his hard life, the boy developed an ability to rise above misfortune that made him a hero in people"s eyes. Hong"s story shows that with love and willpower (意志力), no hardship can defeat a person but himself. So when facing difficulties don"t complain about bad luck. Consider what more you could do for your family and society and you"ll find the world smiling back.
