water 水;hole洞;well 井;house房子。
故选A。
由下文44空the dirt landed on his back也可知道。
every time 每次… any time 任何时间;one time 一次;some time 一段时间,均不符合句意。
as soon as 一…就…;as long as 只要,引导条件状语从句;as far as 远到…,和…一样远;as well as和…
give up 放弃;give out 分发,筋疲力尽;give in 屈服,让步;give off发出。

My earliest memory of dad is grabbing (抓住) his hand while we walked together. As I    older, I remembered my father and I listened to many basketball games on the radio. I always fell asleep    the game was over. When I woke up in the morning, the score sheet (计分表) with the    score on it would be lying next to me. I’ll always remember that.
On cold mornings my father would drive his bread truck by the house. I used to ride on the floor of that bread truck as he delivered (分送) the bread to the stores. The  and the warmth from the bread made me hungry and kept me warm. I’ll always remember that.
My father would attend all my games. One night before an important game my father told me    that he wouldn’t be able to watch the game because he had to deliver the bread and it was a three-hour    from his route. The next day as the game time drew near, I thought about my dad. I happened to look across the field and  saw his bread truck pulling into the stadium (体育场). He tried to make the game. I’ll always remember that.
Years later I became a teacher. I’ll never forget the voice on the phone early one morning telling me dad had just been killed in a traffic accident. I could hear my heart beat in my ears. I    up the phone and went back to my bedroom. After that nothing was very important to me. One day I was on the playground when a little boy walked up to me and grabbed my hand. His hand held mine the    way I used to hold my father’s by the last two fingers. At that moment I found my    in life again. You see even though my father was gone, he left something with me. He left me his smile, spirit and touch. My purpose was to use those gifts as he did. From that day I started. I’ll always remember that!

My brother and I often fight with each other over small things. One day our father said to us, “Tomorrow we will take part in the Ray Home Sports Day. Both of you must go with me. Perhaps you can learn something from those children.” My brother laughed, “Dad, Ray is a home for physically disabled children. What can we learn from them?”
“You will see,” our father said.
Our father works as a volunteer at Ray. The children there have problems with their hands, speech, walking or hearing. Every day, he spends hours helping them to move or exercise their legs or arms.
The following day, he took us to Ray Home. When we got there, we found a nice place to sit down. Finally, the sports began. There was a 50-meter race to see who could run fastest. All the runners were physically disabled. As the race started, all the children moved as fast as they could. Just then, one of the girls fell over and hurt her leg. She began to cry at the top of her voice.
All the children stopped to help the poor girl. Then they all held hands and finished the race together. My brother and I were surprised to see this: the children weren’t interested in winning the race-they were more interested in helping each other to finish the race.

When it comes to friends, I desire those who will share my happiness, who has wings of their own and who will fly with me.
When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and “too serious” about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviors. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say, “Let’s start with a train whistle(鸣笛)today.” We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were changing into social persons and the stories and poems stopped.
When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend. He was in despair(失望)and I was in despair, too. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not travel over this great city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We gave London to each other.
For almost four years I have had a great friend whose imagination brightens mine. We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, sometimes in a funny way, in the other’s dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind.
It is such comforting companions(陪伴)I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind is worth more to me than the lifetime services of a psychologist, who will only fill up the healing silence necessary to those darkest moments in which I would rather be with my own best friend.
