Clean water is not only important for people to produce food, but necessary for our life. However, many people in Asia and Africa don’t have enough clean water to use. The World Health Organization reports that almost 4,000 children die each day of dirty water or lack of water.Farmers use 70%~85% of the world fresh water to produce food. People usually don’t pay much attention to how much water industry (工业) uses, but you may be surprised to know that industry uses 59% of the water in developed countries.
Home use takes up only 8% in the world. But as cities grow, more water will be used. The local government has to try to make people use less water.
In 60% of European cities, people are saving water by using less. They even keep waste water for other use.
In Australia, the government has encouraged people to collect rainwater and recycle water from showers for a second use.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has made a water saving program to encourage families and businesses to check their water use and save more water. 3D movies are really exciting to watch. More and more 3D movies are coming to theaters. Some say that 3D TV sets will come into our homes in the near future. 3D technology can make TV and movies more exciting. However, people with eye problems may get headaches if they spend too much time watching 3D movies. Why?
When we look at an object, each eye sees it at a different angle (角度). Our eyes send the two images to our brain, and the brain puts them together. 3D technology uses two film projectors (投影机)。 One projects left-eye-image and the other projects a right-eye-image. 3D glasses allow us to see a different image in each eye. So, when we are watching a 3D movie, our brain can’t put together the images sent to our eyes. The brain needs to work harder at “reading” the images. That makes it easier for people with eye problems to get dizzy (头晕的) or have headaches.
Dr John Hagan, an eye doctor in Kansas City, said if your eyes can’t focus on the same object at once, you will have trouble watching 3D movies.

Here are some facts that you should know about space vegetables.
Space vegetables are grown from seeds that are carefully chosen. When seeds are brought back from space, they are tested to make sure that they will be safe to eat.
Space vegetables are better for you than normal vegetables. For example, space tomatoes stay fresh for twenty days, which is one week longer than normal tomatoes.
After genetically modified (转基因) food appeared in the market, people worried that they were eating unknown things. For example, if nut genes (坚果基因) are put inside potatoes, people allergic (过敏的) to nuts might get sick from eating these potatoes because they do not know they are also eating nuts. Unlike genetically modified food, space vegetables have not been genetically changed. This means that no new genes are put into the vegetables. Therefore, there are no dangers of eating something unknown.
