举一反三
At first, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things, because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try new things, how can you improve? How can you create? The simple answer is, “You can’t.” Look around you, everything you see is the result of someone trying new things.
Another good thing about mistake is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this : Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. When he was asked how he felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times, but rather had learnt 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally, when you make a mistake, you are that much closer to success. Why? Because you have said what you should say, and you have done what you should do. Every time you make a mistake, you are closer to success. But it doesn’t mean that you can make mistakes without thinking. Instead, when you try new things you have to think them over, so that you can keep away from some unnecessary mistakes.
We shouldn’t spend all our time and money on the only one way, but use them correctly. Because our time and money are limited(有限的) .
There is an old saying, “ If you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough.” So go bravely and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And succeed.

The Clean Your Plate Campaign(运动) began on the Internet in January, 2013. It calls on people to reduce food waste. China in recent years has experienced serious problems with wasted food. CCTV reported in January that the food Chinese people waste every year is enough to feed 200 million people for a year.
Chinese people are well-known for their friendly behavior towards guests. Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten all the food.
It’s important for everyone to reduce food waste. However, wasting food is still a serious problem in China. We still have a long way to go.
President Xi Jinping is encouraging people to be less wasteful(浪费的), and he told Party members to cut back on wasteful holiday banquets(宴会). He said they should be more careful when spending the people’s money.
Wasting food certainly goes against what Xi Jinping calls, “the Chinese tradition of being hardworking and thrifty(节俭).” Having a “clean plate” is just a traditional and important thing to do.

The bed is connected to an alarm clock(闹钟). First, the alarm clock rings. You have a few minutes to wake up. Next, a tape recorder in the bed plays soft music. The tape recorder in Hiroyuki’s bed plays a recording of his girlfriend. She whispered in a soft voice, “Wake up, darling, please.” After minutes later, Hiroyuki hears a recording of his boss. His boss shouts, “Wake up at once, or you’ll be late!”
If you don’t get up after the second recording, a mechanical(机械的) “foot” in the bed will kick you in the head. The bed waits a few more minutes. What! You’re still in bed! Slowly the top of the bed rises higher and higher. The foot of the bed goes lower and lower. Finally you slide(滑落) off the bed and onto the floor. You are out of bed awake!
Hiroyuki’s bed is not in stores. There is only one bed — the bed Hiroyuki made for a contest(比赛). Maybe someday a company will make Hiroyuki’s bed and sell it in stores. Maybe people will buy millions of beds. Then Hiroyuki will be rich. If the bed makes Hiroyuki rich, he won’t need to work, and he won’t need to get up early!

To make it easier, you can try word associations(联想). Try to find a connection between a new word and things or people you know. For example, if your neighbour is an unselfish person who cares about the needs of other people, think about this person every time you see the word, and very soon you"ll start actively using it.
Try to use the words you learn as often as possible. Perhaps you are not sure which situations they should be used in, or whether you pronounce(发音) them correctly, but practice is the best way to understand that. It is not enough to find out the meaning of a word. You should hammer (敲打) it into your mind by using it in actual conversations in everyday life.
Also, it may be helpful to know the meaning of the word roots, prefixes (前缀) and suffixes (后缀), especially if they have a Greek or Latin origin(起源). Even if you meet a long unfamiliar word, it will be easy to know its meaning if you know the general meaning of its parts. For example, if you see the word "philanthropy", it won"t be difficult to surmise what it means if you know that "anthropo" means "human" and "philo" means "loving". Not only can ancient Greek and Latin be helpful, but a number of modern languages as well. So, if you speak French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese, guess the meaning of an unfamiliar English word if it sounds like a word from another language you know.
