举一反三
More than 140 million workers have left their homes in the countryside to look for jobs in big cities all over China. They hope to be rich, but they realize they have many difficulties in making enough money. And one of the difficulties that these workers have is the pride and discrimination(歧视)from the people in cities. When night falls, everywhere I look I see the sad faces of the migrant workers. Many are living far away from those whom they love. Yes,they dress differently, they speak differently, and they have different habits, but they work hard .The people in cities regard them as outsiders, and most governments refuse to give them medical care and public schooling for their children. If China hopes to move into the future, many things need to change. The first is discrimination! We need to stop our discrimination against the migrant workers of China! They may not make as much money as some people in cities, but they are good honest people just trying to survive this game of life. A survey in China last year found the online literature is the biggest growth area of Internet entertainment.
Reading for free is also popular in other countries. See what solutions other countries are taking.
Public Libraries
In countries such as Germany, Canada, and the UK, governments pay the authors to have their books in public libraries.
The pay is different from country to country. Some pay according to how many times a book has been borrowed; others pay according to whether the library has bought the book or not.
Google Books
Google Books allow users to see some free parts before buying them.
The author can choose to make from 20% to 100% of the book’s content(内容) for free reading . But you can see a full view of books that are out of copyright(版权).
E-magazines
E-magazines are usually about pop culture, and make money through advertisements. The writers are usually paid by the numbers of words they write.

Here we interviewed some young netizens and let’s see what their opinions were.
Nongmin: Playing happy Farms at work, that’s terrible! A clerk was fired because she was online playing it at work.
King: I find that all the dreams of having houses and fields, which are very hard to get in real life, are very easy to be realized in the games. I think I know the reason why the game is so popular.
Kaixin: We have to know how to control ourselves. We should keep our minds on study. Games are just games. I prefer to play sports with my classmates when I am free.
Kitty: I like Happy Farms. My high-pressure work makes me feel like I can’t breathe. I wish I could have a real house and farm, but it seems so far away. I have to turn to virtual(虚拟) nature for my own house and farm.
People often get tired from work or study, so they go to their own farms, take care of their crops and pull out weeds. It is really delightful to forget about the pressure. But some players work from morning to night to “grow and steal crops”. They lose themselves in the game and show no interest in anything else. It is really terrible.
小题1:From this passage, we know that “Happy Farms” is _____.
A.a popular online game | B.a kind of sport |
C.an interesting online film | D.a real farm |

C.Kaixin and Kitty | D.Nongmin and Kaixin |
A.“Happy farms” is good for people’s work and study |
B.people can play “Happy farms” at night |
C.people should never play “Happy farms” |
D.“Happy farms” sometimes can help you relax but it may also cause problems |
Sometimes, when you need rain, you do not get any. Other times, you get rain when you don’t need it. 18 a baseball game for example, a sudden rainstorm can stop an exciting game. If the game cannot continue, people who bought the tickets are given “rain checks”. These are 19 tickets that will let them see a 20 game for free.
“Rain Check” now means a second chance at something. Shops may offer “rain checks” when they sell out all of a product(产品) — a television set, for example, at a special low price. 21 all the TV sets have been sold out, the shop gives rain checks to those who wanted to buy 22 . The rain check allows a person to buy the TV set later at the same low price after the shop receives some 23 TV sets from the factory.
“Rain Check” is also used in social situations. It’s a way of 24 an invitation, but for a later time.
You may ask for a “Rain Check” if you are invited to a friend’s house for dinner, but can’t be there right now. You say, “I would love to go, but I’m busy. Could I have a rain check?” 25 you are asking if you could have dinner with your friend at another time. It seems that your friend will probably ask you to dinner very soon next time.
