If we legalize drugs,drugs will be controlled by the government.Firstly the government will know drugs direction.They will know how many drugs are used for medical,how many people use drugs,and who buys them.Once the government gets that information,they can control drugs very easy.On the other hand,the government will use new laws to control drugs.If drugs are legalized,there will be a whole new set of laws.For example,person cannot buy drugs if they under 21; agents can't sell drugs to kids; employers should be able to discriminate against drug users; employers should be able to conduct drug tests,and they should not have to comply with the American with Disabilities Act.Gary E.Johnson said,“Do drugs and do crime?Make it like a gun.Enhance the penalty for the crime in the same way we do today with guns (Johnson 275).”
Youths will be protected under drug’s legalization in two reasons.First,youths will get drugs harder than before.When the suppliers are easy to sell the product legally,they do not want to sell the product illegal.For example,we had age limitation for the people who purchase alcohol and tabaco.We only can purchase them when we meet age limitation.It is a good way to control the youths with the alcohol and tabaco.We can use the same way to control the drags also.Second,it is better for drugs are going to be sold by people who check ID than by drug dealers who don't.If youths get drugs from a drug dealer,nobody can promise the drug’s quality.Maybe it mixes with other bad ingredients.However,if the drugs sell in the supermarkets as alcohol,it will protect youths to get drugs with quality insurance.All in all,youths will be protected under drug’s legalization.
Drug’s legalization will reduce crime.As drugs are illegal to purchase,the demand is larger than supply,the price of drugs is very high.It is one of the reasons about high criminal rate.“It is the high price of drugs that leads addicts to robbery,murder,and other crimes,says lra Glasser,executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union.(Bennett 286).” If drugs are legal to purchase,the supply of drugs are increasing,and then the price of the drugs will decrease.As a result,less people will get do crime.
Finally,drugs legalization will reduce government expenditure.Legalization would free up billions of dollars that the government now spends on police,courts,and corrections to wage war on drugs and would produce significant tax revenues.The policemen will have more time to focus on speeding violations,burglaries,and other offenses that law enforcement now lacks the opportunity to enforce.
