驯犬员王海生是7年前上岛的.前任把海虎交给海生时,他还是个新兵,如今已是三期士官.在岛上论资格,海生仅次于海虎.别看现在在礁盘上巡逻,是海生牵着海虎,海生刚上岛头一年,上礁盘都得要海虎带着.这龙凤岛在南中国海的南端,方圆大小不会超过两个足球场,四周都是白花花一片珊瑚礁.那礁石像花一样绽放在海面,可每个海石花缝隙之间多是几十米深的海沟,谁要是一失足掉进去,出来的可能性几乎没有.特别是涨潮时,不少珊瑚岛礁在水下,巡逻走上去,哪儿能落脚,哪儿要避开,一般士兵不摸个一年半载是不会清楚的.这种情况下,都是要靠海虎来做向导.

Sea Tiger is a military canine,a pure German shepherd.Sea Tiger has been here since the Marine Corps stationed at Dragon and Phoenix Island.Soldiers changed one round and another; standing at the dock with tears,Sea Tiger always sees off his partners with ocean camouflage clothing,disappearing on the horizon where the sea meets the sky,and then greets with affection his new partners coming to the island.
In a jiffy,ten years have passed away,and Sea Tiger is old now.
Wang Haisheng,the dog trainer,came to the island 7 years ago.When his predecessor handed over Sea Tiger to him,he was still a new soldier.Now he is a third-term petty officer.Talking about seniority,he is after Sea Tiger.Now Haisheng leads Sea Tiger when they are patrolling on the reefs.But it was Sea Tiger who led Haisheng during the first year after Haisheng was arrived at the island.The Dragon and Phoenix Island is at the southern tip of South China Sea,with an area of less than the size of two football fields,surrounding it was a vast of shinning white coral reefs,which are like flowers in full blossom on the sea.Yet,between each of “the sea flower”,there is an ocean trench as deep as dozens of meters,and whoever falls into it will be nearly impossible to get out.Especially when during a rising tide,many reef islands are covered by water.Generally,soldiers have to grope for about a year before they can he knows where to step on,or where to keep away from.Under such circumstances,Sea Tiger is badly needed as the guide.
