It is a bit difficult to explain that.
Anyhow I give you one example.
I am explaining to you.
我对你说.
我说给你听.
When these two words confuse you, bear in mind that 给 is usually used 【after】 a verb followed by the object of the action, while 对 is used 【before】a verb.
