except that...是个特殊用法
有时候except,but,besides三个介词后可见到that引导的宾语从句 　　
I know nothing about my new neighbor except that he used to work with a company. 　　
对于我的新邻居我只知道他曾在一家公司上班,其他一无所知.
that引导的从句类型：
1)that引导的主语从句
that引导的主语从句既可以放在句首也可以放在句末,在实际应用中常常采用it形式主语的形式.
如：That he failed the test is true. 他确实没有通过考试.
=It is true that he failed the test.（that引导的句子在复合句中充当主句的主语）
2)that引导的宾语从句
that常用来引导宾语从句,在从句中不担当成分,通常that可以省略.
如：
He has told me that he will get married tomorrow. 他已经告诉我他明天就要结婚了.
that一般跟在实以动词后,某些介词也可以用来引导宾语从句.
3)that引导的表语从句
基本结构：主语 + 系动词 + that从句
如：The fact is that we have lost the game.事实是我们已经输了这场比赛.
that引导的句子在复合句中,充当主句的表语.
4)同位语从句通常由that引导,that不能省略
如：The news that we won the game is exciting.我们赢得这场比赛的消息令人激动.
that后引导的句子,说的是news的内容,二者互为同位关系,没有隶属的主从关系.
5)用that引导定语从句的情况
that在从句中是关系代词,在不定代词,如：anything, nothing, something, the one, all, much, few, any, little等作先行词时,引导词只用that,不用which.
如：There is nothing that we can use.
