under 用于表达在XX的遮盖、覆盖或权位之下,可以有直接接触,也可以没有.
例如：
The kid is hiding under the blanket.
...under the blue sky.

beneath 除了有时候也可以用于替代 below 和 under 的含义（但比较少用）,更常用于相当于 underneath 的意思,比如 beneath the earth.
