THE ANT AND THE DOVE
[ Fables ]
An Ant went to a fountain to quench his thirst,and,tumbling in,was almost drowned.But a dove that happened to be sitting on a neighboring tree saw the Ant's danger,and plucking off a leaf,let it drop into the water before him,and the Ant,mounting upon it,was presently wafted safe ashore.Just at that time a Fowler was spreading his net,and in the act of snaring the Dove,when the Ant,perceiving his object,bit his heel.The start which the man gave made him drop his net,and the Dove,aroused to a sense of her danger,flew safe away.
One good turn deserves another.
蚂蚁和鸽子

一只蚂蚁到一个泉眼去喝水,掉了进去,险些被淹死,但是正巧有一只鸽子在旁边的树枝上歇息,看到蚂蚁生命危险,就叼下了一片树叶让它掉在蚂蚁面前的水上,蚂蚁爬了上去,立刻安全地漂到岸上去了.正在那个时候,一个捕鸟的人摊开了鸟网,动手要捕捉鸽子,蚂蚁看出了他的用意,就去咬了这人的脚后跟,捕鸟人一惊,把网扔了,鸽子意识到自己的危险,就安然地飞走了.
