Indeed, the old can be easily hurt or harmed. The body is like a car, it needs more mechanical maintenance as it gets older. You can carry this comparison right through to the provision of spare parts. But never forget that such operations are painful experiences, however good the results. And at what point should you stop treating the old body? Is it morally right to try to push off death by pursuing the development of drugs to excite the forgetful old mind and to activate the old body, knowing that it is designed to die? You cannot ask doctors or scientists to decide, because so long as they can see the technical opportunities, they will feel bound to give them a try, on the principle that while there"s life, there"s hope.
When you talk to the old people, however, you are forced to the conclusion that whether age is happy or unpleasant depends less on money or on health than it does on your ability to have fun.

解析
试题分析:本文讲述的是很多老人都希望自己不要过多受别人的管束,要给他们一定的自由。以及对一些社会工作者的一些观点。
小题1:C 推理题。根据文章第一段前3行Very old people do raise moral problems for almost everyone who comes in contact with them. Their values—this can"t be repeated too often—are not necessarily our values可知老人们学会独处,那样更有自由,不受别人的管束。故C正确。
小题2:A 推理题。根据第一段后3行Some social workers, the ones who clear up the worms, think we are in danger of carrying this concept of personal freedom to the point where serious risks are being taken with the health and safety of the old.可知social workers认为健康和安全比自由更重要。故A正确。
小题3:B 推理题。根据第二段1,2行Indeed, the old can be easily hurt or harmed. The body is like a car, it needs more mechanical maintenance as it gets older.把人比喻成车,越老越需要维修保养,故B正确。
小题4:C 推理题。根据第二段中间But never forget that such operations are painful experiences, however good the results. And at what point should you stop treating the old body? Is it morally right to try to push off death by pursuing the development of drugs to excite the forgetful old mind and to activate the old body, knowing that it is designed to die?说明C项内容也就是我们要尝试所以的方法来保证老人是值得商榷的。故C正确。

And when we are 49 to be still because we’re in line for something, or waiting at a doctor’s appointment, or on a bus or train, we often find something to do. Being still isn’t something we’re 50 .
This comes at a 51 : we lose that time for 52 , for observing and listening. We lose peace. And 53 yet: sometimes too much action is worse than no action at all. You can run around , but get nothing done.
Take a moment to think about how you spend your days. Are you always 54 through your schedule? Is this how you want to spend your life? If not, take a moment to be 55 . Don’t think about what you have to do, or what you’ve done already. Just be in the moment.

People naturally have different levels of confidence. Some have a higher level of confidence than others do, but even those whose confidence is lacking can learn to build their level of confidence and reach their most important goals.Increasing self confidence is one of the most common reasons people give for seeking the help of psychologists and other professionals.
One of the many places where a greater level of confidence is useful is in the workplace. We all know how difficult it can be, for instance, to ask the boss for a raise. This process can be extremely difficult for those who lack confidence in their own abilities. After all, if you are unsure about your own abilities, how will you ever convince your boss that you deserve more money for the work you do?
Even if you are not asking for that big raise, having plenty of confidence in your abilities is important to success. If you are certain of your abilities, chances are that those around you, whether they are your coworkers, your colleagues or your superiors, will see that confidence, and that will help to assure them that you are the best at what you do.
Being thought of as the person to go to, and being seen as an expert in your chosen field, is naturally very important to success on the job.If you can make yourself the person people go to for guidance and advice, you will help to protect yourself from the ever present danger of downsizing(裁员).After all, if you are a recognized expert at the office, you will be regarded as an indispensable member of the team.
Having a high level of confidence, after all, does not mean overlooking the places where you could improve.Knowing what you do well and where you need help will help you enjoy increased success and confidence.

Anyone who knows a bit of programming can tell you that I just give myself an infinite (无穷大) number of lives in the game, so I can continue playing forever. This was also my first introduction to algebra (代数), and I didn’t even know it at the time. This was a decisive (决定性的) moment in my life. For the first time that I can remember, I was quite happy because of what I was learning and what I was able to do. As a result, I became enthusiastic for the rest of my life about self-learning and computers, and I was quite happy doing them, too.
I’ve noticed that people who are truly content with life are enthusiastic in what they do. This enthusiasm, along with good health, is the key to being happy. It also leads to self-confidence and fulfillment in life, too. It may also lead to success, wealth, and achievements.
Yes, success, wealth, or achievements seem to bring some people happiness, too. Yet, I don’t think they can indeed make people happy. I know plenty of people who are successful and wealthy. However, I also know several of the people with successful businesses are not happy with what they are doing. I know people who continuously buy themselves new toys, cars, computers, and televisions, yet they never seem content for too long.
Please remember that happiness comes from enthusiasm, and happiness is the journey of life, not the destination.

There were balls of that ouange stuing still hanging on the wall of the workshop when we moved in ,I used them to tie up Christmas presents last year, for my kids , I hope it reminded them of the gift greater than money that my wife and I gave them by returning the money ,We did the right thing ,and our children will never forget that.

Her grandfather told her she could go into the 40 and get herself a cookie. Next to the cookies was a pile of coins. Sure that no one was 41 , she took one of the coins, too.
When she 42 with her cookie, her grandfather asked her to show him her 43 . She held out only her left hand 44 , and he said, “Show me the other hand.” When she unwillingly did 45 , showing the coin, she saw 46 in her grandfather’s eyes.
He paused a moment and then 47 her up, saying, “Darling, you can have anything in the world that I have, but it breaks my heart that you’d ever 48 it.” Some 50 years later, this story of how her grandfather gave her the gift of 49 still brought tears to her eyes.
Few things have as large an influence on 50 the values of a child as the strong pain of lovingly administered shame (羞愧). It helps judge right from wrong and gives a 51 emotional (感情的) dimension to moral (道德的) and character issues.
Kids, and adults for that matter, learn from their 52 . Parents, teachers and coworkers can remind them of their moral responsibilities without shaming or 53 them.
What we can’t do is just let 54 go, unless we want to send the message that’s okay. What we allow, we 55 . And we should never encourage anything other than moral excellence.
