In the middle of a beautiful day, I was feeling lost, as if the world was crashing on me. didn"t know which way to go, except to head out to the countryside. "Yes, Grandpa, wanted to keep it forever. " "There just comes a time when the only thing you can do is to cut the string and let it go. Perhaps by doing that, when it flies very high like real eagles do, it will come back to us. " Grandpa said. I how the old man cut the string to let fly the kite. As the two walked away, looked to the . There I saw my answer, too. Today I have to cut the final strings that kept my two boys my reach. 举一反三
Dear Dad, Today I was at the shopping mall and I spent a lot of time reading the Father’s Day cards. They all had a special message that in some way or another reflected how I feel about you. Yet as I selected and read, it occurred to me that not a single card said what I really want to say to you. You’ll soon be 84 years old, Dad, and you and I will have had 55 Father’s Day together. I haven’t always been with you on Father’s Day but I’ve always been with you in my heart. You know, Dad, there was a time when we were separated by the generation gap. You stood on one side of the Great Divide and I on the other. The Father-Daughter Duel shifted into high gear ( 档位) when you taught me to drive the old Dodge and I decided I would drive the "54 Chevy whether you liked it or not. The police officer who sent me home, after you reported the Chevy stolen, didn"t have much tolerance for a stubborn 16 year old, while you were so tolerant about it, Dad, and I think that was probably what made it the worst night of my life. Our relationship greatly improved when I married a man you liked, and things really turned around when we began making babies right and left. Somewhere along the line, the generation gap disappeared. I suppose I saw us and our relationship as aging together, rather like a fine wine. But the strangest thing happened last week. I was at a stop sign and I watched as you turned the corner in your car. It didn"t immediately occur to me that it was you because the man driving looked so elderly and fragile behind the wheel of that huge car. It was rather like a slap in the face delivered from out of nowhere. Perhaps I saw your age for the first time that day. I guess what I"m trying to say, Dad, is what every son and daughter wants to say to their Dad today. Honoring a father on Father"s Day is about respect and sharing and acceptance and tolerance and giving and taking. It"s about loving someone more than words can say, and it"s wishing that never had to end. I love you, Dad. Love, Jenny 小题1:How did Jenny probably feel on the night she was sent home by the police? A.Disappointed. | B.Nervous. | C.Guilty. | D.Frightened. | 小题2:We can learn from the passage that Jenny and her father_________.A.kept in touch by writing each other | B.are separated due to the generation gap | C.have been getting along very well | D.had a hard time understanding each other | 小题3:Why did Jenny feel strange when she saw her father last week?.A.She seldom saw him driving that huge car. | B.She had never realized his being old and weak. | C.She didn"t expect to meet with him there. | D.She had never seen him driving so slowly before. | 小题4:Jenny wrote his father this letter to _________A.tell him about their conflicts | B.say sorry for her being stubborn | C.express her gratitude to him | D.remind him of the early incident |

Whatever misfortune you face, just hold up your head and face it with a smile! I got to know this from a musical soul. The other day I was feeling quite , having just been laid off from my job. With so many to pay, I was wondering what was going to happen to my family. I got off the bus when I heard piano music and singing rising above the noise of the . I walked a bit slower, trying to find out where it was coming from. Through the I saw a young lady sitting at a piano with a box next to her. She was singing songs about love and her sweet voice me a bit. Then I stood there watching her playing, thinking that it must take to perform on her own in front of hundreds of people she didn’t know. She might have felt my for she occasionally looked in my direction. By now I was telling myself that I could at least tell her how good she sounded. I walked and put some money in her box and she expressed her thanks with a smile on her face. I asked her , “Why are you playing the piano in the middle of this crowded place?” She explained to me that she sees so many people in the world that she is trying to relieve the pain by motivational(激励的)music. Instead of continuing my way home, I said to her, “I have been going through a time lately, but you’ve made me again.” “I’m happy that I could be to you,” she replied. “Why are you so sad?” I told her my story and said, “I’m not so about what to do….” “You see, here’s the ,” she responded. “When you were walking, your head was down.” She looked me in the eyes and went on, “Don’t look defeated, because comes in different ways and if your head is down you might never see it. You should more … lift your head up.” I was really by what she said! I did hold my head up and soon got through the difficult time. So in trouble, just face it bravely and you are sure to overcome your difficulty sooner or later.

I have a cousin who’s a farmer. If you saw him on market day with his old boots and worn hat, you might think he was a tramp (流浪汉). But he’s either buying or selling for thousands of pounds. He doesn’t have a luxurious lifestyle, but the farmhouse, dozens of acres of land, machinery, cattle, chicken and crops must be worth a fortune. You might describe him as a man, but he doesn’t look like that. My father owned a shop selling newspapers, cigarettes, birthday cards, toys, books and magazines. The shop a comfortable life for us, but we weren’t rich. The only luxury was that my father owned a car when most people in our town couldn’t afford one, professionals such as doctors and lawyers. My point is that can be misleading. You often can’t the rich from the way they look. I once met Richard Branson, the Virgin Airlines tycoon (巨头).He’d a hot balloon across the Atlantic and landed in the Irish sea. When he was rescued, he was wearing jeans, a T-shirt and a sneaker. You’d have guessed he was a multimillionaire. Andrew Bruce, the 11th Earl (伯爵) of Elgin, a group of press people to his luxurious home in Fife, Scotland. His , the 7th Earl of Elgin was famous for removing and transporting to Britain priceless sculptures from the Parthenon, a very famous temple in Greece. The so-called Elgin Marbles can be seen in the British Museum. The Earl’s castle was cold, despite a fire burning in the hearth (壁炉). He explained to us,“I’m sorry it’s so cold, but you should know that a gentleman’s house is always cold.” There you have it: doesn’t always bring comfort.

My grandmother often said to me, “You can count the number of your true friends on the fingers of one hand.” For a long time I thought this was true. However, I’ve now discovered my grandmother was only half right. Maybe we do only make a few “best” friends in our lifetime, but those aren’t the only people that we can call friends. There are many different types. Let me tell you about a few of them. One type of friends is the type I call the “football mom friend”. My neighbor Sally is a good example. We both have kids who play football in a football club, and someone has to take them to practice and pick them up. Sally and I and two other mothers take turns to do this. We meet sometimes and have tea and talk about what our kids are doing, but those are the only times that we meet each other. I enjoy being with these women, but we don’t do anything else together. Another type is called the “hobby friend”. That’s the person you share an interest or a hobby with. Michael and Cater, who are brothers, are a good example of this type. We’re all in a bird watching club. Every few weekends the members of the club go on a trip to watch different kinds of birds. There’s nothing romantic(浪漫的)about my relationship with Michael and Cater, of course. We just share interest in birds. Then there’s the “other half of the couple” type of friends. Jim is married to Rose, a friend that I’ve known since college. When Rose married Jim, I realized that I would have to be Jim’s friend if I want to continue to be Rose’s. Jim and I don’t share so many interests, but we do have a friendly relationship. 小题1:What does the first paragraph tell us about?A.We need true friends in our lifetime. | B.We have few best friends in our lifetime. | C.We should make new friends. | D.We must be friendly to all our friends. | 小题2:Many people are mentioned in this passage. Who is the writer’s true friend?A.Sally. | B. Michael. | C. Jim. | D. Rose. | 小题3:Which of the following statements is RIGHT?A.Finally the writer agrees with her grandmother. | B.Michael and Cater both fall in love with the writer. | C.The writer herself sometimes takes her kid to the football club. | D.Sally and the writer are close friends. | 小题4:How many types of friends are mentioned in the passage?小题5:From the last paragraph we learn that ________.A.the writer made friends with Jim only because of Rose | B.Jim was the writer’s good friend at college | C.Rose didn’t want the writer to be a friend of her husband | D.the writer made friends with Rose because of Jim |

A man found the cocoon(茧) of a butterfly, One day a small appeared , He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it to force its body through that little hole. In fact, the butterfly _the rest of its life crawling (爬行)around with a swollen body and shriveled wings , It was never able to .What a shame! The man, in his kindness and fast action, made a . He did not understand that the suffering and the struggle for the butterfly to get through the tiny hole were nature’s way of fluid (体液) from the body of the butterfly into its wings it would be ready for flight once it achieved its from the cocoon. Sometimes struggles are what we need in our lives. If nature allowed us to go through our lives any difficulties , it would weaken or even disable us. We would not be as as what we could have been . We could never fly !
