People always think about "the problem of youth". If there is one-which I take leave to doubt-it is
older people who create it,not the young themselves.Let us get down to fundamentals and agree that the
young are after all human beings-people just like their elders. There is only one difference between an old
man and a young one:the young man has a beautiful future before him while the old man a splendid future
behind him and maybe that is where the rub is.
When I was a teenager,I felt that I was just young and unknown-that I was a new boy in a huge
school, and I would have been very pleased to be regarded as something so interesting as a problem. For
one thing, being a problem gives you a certain identify, and that is one of the things the young are busily
engaged in seeking.
I find young people exciting. They have an air of freedom, and they have not a dull promise to mean
ambitions or love of comfort. They are not anxious social climbers, and they have no devotion to important
things. All this seems to me to link them with life, and the origins of things. It"s as if they were in some sense
of cosmic beings in violent and lovely contrast with us suburban (乡村的) creatures. All that is in my mind when I meet a young person. He may be too proud, illmannered, selfconfident or selfsatisfied, but I do not
turn for protection to boring clich?s about respect for elders as if age were a reason for respect.I accept
that we are equals, and I will argue with them,as an equal,if I think he is wrong.

good parent.
I no longer consider myself the center of the universe.I show up.I listen.I try to laugh.I am a good
friend to my husband.I have tried to make marriage vows (誓言) mean what they say.I am a good friend
to my friends, and they to me.Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today.
So here"s what I want to tell you today:Get a life.A real life, not a desire of the next promotion (提升),
the bigger paycheck, the larger house.
Get a life in which you are not alone.Find people you love, and who love you.And remember that love
is not leisure (休闲), it is work.Pick up the phone.Send an email.Write a letter. And realize that life is the
best thing and that you have no business taking it for granted.
It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours, and our minutes.It_is_so_easy_to_exist_instead_
of_to_live.I learnt to live many years ago.Something really, really bad happened to me, something that
changed my life in ways that, if I had my choice, it would never have been changed at all.And what I
learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all.
I learned to love the journey, not the destination.I learned to look at all the good in the world and try
to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally. And I tried to do that, in part, by
telling others what I had learned.
By telling them this:Read in the backyard with the sun on your face.Learn to be happy. And think of life as a deadly illness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion (激情) as it ought to be lived.

invented a suit that can be worn while they wash.
The suit has been specially designed so that it can be cleaned under the showerhead. There is no need
for soaking (浸泡), dry cleaning-or even soap.
The Japanese market has taken a liking to the "shower suit", described as "revolutionary" by its owner Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), which is the research and marketing body that represents Australian
woolgrowers.Orders have been placed for 170,000 of the woolen suits.
The suit could be worn in the shower, although it was probably better to hang it on a clothes hanger
and carry it instead, AWI corporate affairs spokesman Stephen Feighan said."The idea is that you hang it
up and then...you give it a spray (喷雾), and it"s dry the next morning, " Mr Feighan said.
A Japanese researcher working for AWI invented the suit by combining three technologies. The secret
is the best lining (内衬), which allows the suit to dry quickly. The shower suit attracted busy corporate
people, particularly those who often traveled or stayed up late, Mr Feighan said. The airline industry was
also interested.
Mr Feighan confessed he had not worn one of the suits yet, or tried to wash it in the shower, because
they cut to fit Japanese figures.
AWI believes that the shower suit will spread from the Japanese market through Europe and India.
Mr Feighan hoped the suit, made from local wool, would be available in Australia in 12 to 18 months"
time.

language. Now all professors have opened up. "

fame, just like William Hung,21, a native of Hong Kong.
Hung recently has made an agreement with USbased entertainment firms Koch Records and Fuse
Music Network. They"ll publish a record, titled The True Idol on April 6.
The idol is a civil engineering student at the University of California at Berkeley. He did a version of
Ricky Martin"s She Bangs on the television show American Idol 3, on January 27. The Fox TV singing
contest searches for pop stars among ordinary people. In the case of Hung, however, his act was so
bad that the judges cut him off in midact.
Hung"s response?" I already did my best, so I have no regrets at all." That"s good, because any
common person would have found plenty to regret:the offkey singing, the blue Hawaiian shirt worn with
pants pulled up too high, the terrible dancing and the hips jerking (摇摆) to a beat that did not belong to
the song, maybe not even to this planet. It was, by all accounts, bad.
However, it was this very bad act that sold well.
Mare Juris, president of Fuse, explained it this way:" Every one of us is happily guilty of singing our
favorite song at the top of our lungs with complete freedom, completely offkey and completely unworried. That"s what William did and immediately won the hearts of America."
Whatever it is, for the moment it"s big. Three websites devoted to Hung have gone up on the Internet
in the past few weeks. Versions of his performance have been remixed with hip hop and technomusic
and have made it to the top 10 request list at a Chicago radio station.
So, what does Hung think of this?
"There were all these people saying things about me. A lot were saying I was very courageous and
that I was great on the show, but some didn"t have much respect for me and some were kind of mean."
Now he says he"s not so sure whether to distance himself from the glamour (魅力) or to accept it.
Returning to normal hasn"t been easy.
B. Hung"s performance attracted the public eye.
C. How an unsuccessful person became famous.
D. Success sometimes does not require hard work.

d. Hung gave a terrible performance though he tried his best.
e. Three websites put Hung"s funny performance on the Internet.
B. a, c, d, b, e
C. a, d, b, c, e
D. d, b, a, e, c
B. He attracted people"s attention in the contest.
