This inspiring and motivational children"s book is based on a true story that began with Kailee"s visit
with her mother to a food bank to provide much needed food for poor families. After a call from Kailee"s
school asking her to spearhead donations to a local food bank, Elizabeth Hoadley took her daughter to the grocery store to select the food that they would give.
Kailee was full of questions for her mother -Who would get the food? Were there children involved?
Did the children have toys to play with, a bed to sleep on and a coat to keep them warm? The
Thanksgiving Coat is a direct result of Kailee"s probing questions and her concern about the children who might be hungry and cold.
The Thanksgiving Coat speaks to the values and beliefs that we should all develop and pass on to our children. But, Hoadley is very specific about how to sensitize our children to the issues of homelessness
and hunger without scaring them.
Because of the urgent call for help from the food bank, Hoadley was able to join with Kailee in creating a way to reach out to others who didn"t have as much as they did and needed help. Children will learn the
lesson of giving and gratitude when they read The Thanksgiving Coat, and it may inspire them to create
their own methods of giving.
Kailee is no stranger to illustrating and publishing books. Beginning at the age of 2 years, the creative and giving little girl has illustrated several books, including Balloon Wishes, which inspires hope and healing

people went there in search for gold. Panning (淘洗) for gold has a rich and interesting history.
Nowadays some people continue to pan for gold in California. Although it cannot be regarded as a
method for earning income, taking on gold-panning as a hobby can give you a feeling of being in the old
west and get you out into nature.
The only tool that is required to pan for gold is a gold pan. You can use a regular old flat pan, but
"officially" gold pans are quite cheap so you may as well buy one that is made for the task. Most sold
pans come in either plastic or metal.
Once you have your pan you will want to start practicing your gold panning technique. Panning for
gold works because gold is much heavier than most rocks. To pan for gold you add rock and dirt form
the bottom of a stream to your pan and then gently let water flow through the pan. The lighter-weight
rocks are slowly swept away while any gold will be left behind in the pan.To start panning for gold, first
you will need to find a good location. Try checking maps of your area and old history books to find
location where there were gold mines in the past. Even though most of the gold have already been
removed, there are likely to be small leftovers that you can find. Once you have found an area that looks
promising, look for any small stream or river where you can try out panning for gold.
Panning for gold requires patience and it may be a long time before you hit anything of value. However, it is an enjoyable hobby and provides a great opportunity to get outdoors, so don"t give up too quickly.

The clock has become a symbol of the United Kingdom and London. When a television or film-maker
wishes to quickly show a non-UK audience a certain location in Britain, a popular way to do so is to
show an image of the Clock Tower. The Clock Tower is also often voted as the Most Iconic London
Film Location.
The Clock Tower is a focus of New Year celebrations in the United Kingdom, with radio and TV
stations tuning to its chimes (报时钟声) to welcome the start of the year.
Londoners who live an appropriate (适当的) distance from the Clock Tower and Big Ben can, by
means of listening to the chimes both live and on the radio or television, hear the bell strike thirteen times
on New Year’s Eve. This is possible due to what amounts to an offset between live and electronically
transmitted chimes since the speed of sound is much slower than the speed of radio waves. Guests are
invited to count the chimes aloud as the radio is gradually turned down.
The Clock Tower has appeared in many films, most notably in the 1978 version of The Thirty-Nine
Steps, in which the hero attempted to halt the clock’s progress (to prevent a linked bomb blowing up)
by hanging from the minute hand of its western face. It was also used in the film, Shanghai Knights,
starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, and was depicted (描述) as being destroyed in Aliens of
London. In the Walt Disney film The Great Mouse Detective, it is even shown being destroyed by a

became fully developed and recognized by the mid-19th century. The form was extremely popular in
the Qing Dynasty court and has come to be regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China. Major
performance troupes (剧团,戏班子) are based in Beijing and Tianjin in the north, and Shanghai in the
south. The art form is also enjoyed in Taiwan, and has spread to other countries such as the United
States and Japan.
Beijing opera features four main types of performers. Performing troupes often have several of
each variety,as well as numerous secondary and tertiary performers. With their elaborate (认真的,
精心的) and colorful costumes, performers are the only focal points on Beijing opera"s characteristically
small stage. They make use of the skills of speech, song, dance, and combat in movements that are
symbolic and suggestive, rather than realistic. Above all else, the skill of performers is evaluated
according to the beauty of their movements. Performers also hold a variety of stylistic conventions that
help audiences navigate the plot of the production. The layers of meaning within each movement must
be expressed in time with music. The music of Beijing opera can be divided into the Xipi and Erhuang
styles. Melodies include arias (唱腔),fixed-tune melodies, and percussion patterns. The repertoire of
Beijing opera includes over 1,400 works, which are based on Chinese history, folklore, and, increasingly,
contemporary life.
In recent years,Beijing opera has attempted numerous reforms in response to sagging audience
numbers. These reforms, which include improving performance quality, adapting new performance
elements, and performing new and original plays, have met with mixed success. Some Western works
have been adopted as new plays, but a lack of funding and an adverse political climate have left Beijing
opera"s fate uncertain as the form enters the 21st century.
