After the party I was told by the fellow teacher that American women have a special saying about birthdays. If a woman is over 40, or even if she is 80, her birthday is always the 39th. If she is in her thirties, her birthday will be the 29th. And in her twenties, it’s the 19th. They usually have their “real” birthday when they are below 20.
This shows that American women, especially elderly women, are very sensitive(敏感的) about their ages. But my teacher always says, “We want to be younger,” so about the age of Western women, my advice is that if you don’t know it, don’t ask about it; if you really know it, don’t mention it.

In 1986, a Swiss journalist, Oswald Iten, decided to visit the Tasaday. The journey 44 thick rainforests and across rivers was hard and dangerous. Mr. Iten was 45 killed by the soldiers, villagers and businessmen who wanted to take the wood from the rainforest. Finally, Mr. Iten 46 and found the caves of the Tasaday 47 . The people were living in nearby huts and they were all 48 jeans and T-shirts, not leaves. He thought that perhaps they were not an ethnic minority 49 .
When he 50 to Switzerland, Mr. Iten wrote about the Tasaday people in the newspapers. He said he thought that they were just ordinary farmers, poor, but not 51 from anyone else. He believed that in 1971, the government told “the Tasaday” to 52 they were native people from thousands of years ago, so that tourists---and money---would start 53 into the region.
One group of experts said that they really were people who had no 54 with modern life before 1971; another group said they were just 55 the part. So who are these people, really? Perhaps we’ll never really be sure.

Words possess power because of their lasting effects. Many of us regret something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it true? Is it loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesn’t pass this test, then it’s better left unsaid.
Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem(自尊) and motive others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to he

A "pig academy" in the east of England is aiming to train up new pig farmers to help promote local agriculture and meet the UK"s growing demand for pork. Last year consumption of pork products increased by 6,000 tonnes. But British farmers have not benefited from this rise in demand. A combination of increasing feed prices, competition from cheaper imports and an outbreak of foot and mouth disease have all eaten into their profits. Pig numbers in the UK have actually almost halved in the last decade.
Now, Fresh Start Pig Academy in Lincolnshire is launching a course which intends to redress (修复) the balance. They say pig husbandry (养猪业) is a growth industry and newcomers are welcome. For those of you who fancy getting your hands dirty, the course will teach you everything you need to know, from keeping pigs healthy to raising the capital needed to start up.
Pig farmer Anne Longthorp followed her father into the industry and believes that farming pigs is very rewarding work: "They"re great, curious animals to work with. Just watching their behaviour – it"s really interesting work. There is a lot more to pig farming than people give us credit for. It"s very scientific."
So, while most of Britain"s young people may continue to dream of overnight stardom, others will hope a more traditional career will help them bring home the bacon.

The prices of houses depend on the area—the most expensive are the houses in London and South England (about 200,000 pounds); smaller houses in other areas may cost about 50,000 pounds.
