举一反三
Certainly, you need some intelligence, knowledge base, study skills, and time management skills, but if you don"t have motivation, you won"t get far. Think about this analogy. You have a car with a full tank of gas, a well-tuned engine, good set of tires, quadraphonic CD system, and a sleek, polished exterior(外表). There it sits. This car has incredible potential. However, until a driver sits behind the wheel, puts the key in the ignition(点火装置), and cranks it up, the car doesn"t function. You guessed it; the KEY is MOTIVATION.
Interest is an important motivator for a student. So is a desire to learn. When you link these two things together, you create success. Often success in an endeavor(努力) leads to more interest and a greater desire to learn, creating an upward spiral(螺旋形) of motivation toward a goal you have established.
So be honest with yourself. Are you genuinely interested in being in college? Have you set realistic goals for yourself? How can you develop the internal motivation that really counts? When it comes to motivation, KNOWING is not as important as DOING.
小题1:Why does the writer give the example of a car in the second paragraph?
A.Because people can never go far without a good car. |
B.Because a good car motivates some college students to study harder. |
C.Because a good car is a symbol of being a success. |
D.Because motivation leads people to success like it starts a car. |
A.Only the internal motivation can result in success. |
B.Internal motivation is more important than external motivation. |
C.Internal motivation and external motivation has equal importance. |
D.External motivation is enough for people to achieve success. |
A.interest | B.the desire to learn |
C.the knowledge of motivation | D.the sense of success |
A.To encourage everyone to develop motivation for whatever they are doing.. |
B.To inspire college students to set goals for their college life. |
C.To imply that the less motivated college students quit the college. |
D.To call on parents to give up their over-protection of their children. |
A.The goals you set for yourself shouldn’t be far beyond your reach. |
B.You needn’t attend college if you are really not interested in it. |
C.You should work harder to win praise from others. |
D.Honesty is the best policy to solve problems in your life. |
Many do-it-yourself homeowners are interested in
trying out solar power to leam about the technology and
perhaps to provide energy for limited-use applications.
There are a variety of ways to find cheap solar panels
(板), including buying used and building your own
with factory seconds. Both methods will save money
while forcing you to learn the ins-and-outs of a solar
power array (阵列).
We"ve all seen solar-powered street signs or PV
panels being used for various purposes at remote locations.
When those units become cracked or chipped and are considered "unsafe", companies are forced to replace them, generally to avoid responsibility issues.Because it"s difficult to get rid of PV panels, many companies, if approached, are willing to give them away or to sell them for modest prices.Depending on the degree of damage present, expect to see performance degradation (降级) in the range of 10% to 60%.A multimeter (万用表) can be used to test the panel before buying. If the panel"s free, take it anyway. It could still be useful in a home solar project.
A solar panel is really nothing but a box serving as a container for a large group of solar cells.Factory second solar cells are usually sold on eBay at a small part of their regular cost. The cells come in a variety of sizes. You will need to figure out how much power a single cell produces to determine how many will need to be wired together to form an array.
A simple search of the Internet will show numerous sites detailing home solar panel projects.Do-it-yourself lovers are generally quite generous in supply photographs of their work and description of what went wrong and right with the project.
Getting cheap solar panels with slight imperfections, either used or through sales of factory seconds, is a perfect solution for home-built renewable energy projects. The high number of solar lovers online provide a wealth of useful information.Only limited skills are required, plus an understanding of the basic wiring involved. All are well within the talents of almost any home handyman.Beyond the satisfaction of having completed the project, you"ll come away with a functional solar panel that will be a source of power for use around the house or at remote locations.
Solar energy systems are quickly becoming more popular with homeowners as prices continue to decline.
72.The author writes the passage to introduce ____.
A.ways of finding cheap solar panels B.ways of saving energy

73.What does the phrase "factory seconds" in the passage refer to?
A.Second-hand factory products. B.Cheap but perfect factory products
C.Faulty factory solar cells. D.The second best factory solar cells
74.From Paragraph 5, we can learn about home-built energy projects that ____.
A.none of them are beyond home handymen
B.a lot of useful information is available on the Internet
C.a perfect solution is to get cheap and perfect solar panels
D.understanding electrical wiring is not necessarily needed
75.What is the author"s attitude towards the future of solar energy systems?
A.Optimistic. B.Pessimistic. C.Indifferent. D.Doubtful
Some fish form huge schools. Could fish set up schools and teach their children how to survive in the ocean? You may ask. No. Here the “schools” are not the places where you study. They are fish shoals (鱼群) that cover tens of kilometers. What causes hundreds of millions of fish to gather and move together is one of biology’s mysteries.
Darkness appears to be the first step to the creation of shoals, according to a study published in the March 27 journal Science. A team of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and five other institutions studied Atlantic herring (鲱鱼), which forms shoals on a fishing ground off Massachusetts. They used an underwater imaging technology and fish-finding sonar (声纳) to observe the herring over several days in autumn when they spawn (产卵).
They found that, as the sun set, fish in scattered (分散的) groups began swimming much closer to one another than they normally do. When the number of fish reached a certain point in an area, this set off a chain reaction of similar behavior that spread like a sound wave through the water.
The herring’s movement seemed to be started by sunset. The team didn’t record the breakup of these shoals, but a previous study suggested that as the sun rose, the shoals fell apart.
“When the light fades (逐渐消失), it’s safer for the fish to move away from the seabed,” says Nicholas Makris, a professor at MIT who led the research. “Once they have a certain number of other fish, they suddenly come together - forming a shoal covering tens of kilometers within tens of minutes.”
Herring form shoals to migrate during the autumn spawning season. Some shoals were 40 km across and 30 m from top to bottom. They formed in deep water and moved into more shallow waters to spawn.
Forming shoals helps protect them from predators (掠食者) by giving them simple strength in numbers. The ordered movement of the shoal means the fish can reach their spawning ground more quickly and more safely.
Scientists have never before gathered information on so many animals acting together. Understanding these herring shoals could lead to more ideas about what causes animals to move in schools, says Iain Couzin, a biologist at Princeton University, US.
