Three quarters of Britain’s parents are too busy to read bedtime stories to their children, according to a study. The study was carried out by CITV to start their new children’s show Bookaboo, which is designed to encourage anyone to pick up a book and read with their children at any time of the day. Worryingly, the study showed that only three percent of fathers now find the time to read to the kids compared to 89 percent of mothers. Lucy Goodman, creator of Bookaboo, said,“It’s important for young boys to be able to share a book with dads, granddads or male carers and it can be fun and rewarding, too.” Of the dads who said they didn’t read to their kids,87 percent blamed work while more than a third said they were too tired. While 89 percent of mums said they did read to their children, more than half of them said cleaning distracted (使分心) them and 49 percent were distracted by other household things. Researchers also found parents are now relying heavily on other people to lend a hand with reading to their children with grandparents doing the most, followed by sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles. While 95 percent of parents read to their children at some point, only five percent read to their children during the day. More than one in ten said they read every couple of weeks or less, and five percent could not remember the last time they shared a book. The study found parents also seem content with allowing their children to immerse (使沉浸) themselves in TV programs or playing computer games rather than reading. Exgoalkeeper David Seaman, who is a dad of two,has been a guest in Bookaboo. He says,“I think it’s important that fathers do read to their children because it’s a special time. Sometimes my two children will come to listen to the same book—it’s a magical moment and I advise fathers just to try it.” 小题1:We can know from the passage that Bookaboo________.A.is a daily show | B.is an adults’ show | C.is a popular show | D.aims to encourage people to read to their children | 小题2:According to the study, fathers don’t read to their kids mainly because________.A.they are too busy with work | B.they don’t think it necessary to do so | C.they are distracted by household things | D.they like to play computer games in their free time | 小题3:Which group of people helped parents read to the kids the most?A.Aunts and uncles. | B.Grandparents. | C.Children’s carers. | D.Children’s sisters and brothers. | 小题4:According to the last paragraph,David Seaman________.A.is a goalkeeper now | B.has only one child | C.is the creator of Bookaboo | D.thinks it is great to read to children |

It"s the end of class. When the bell rings, students of Luohu Foreign Languages School in Shenzhen quickly take out their cell phones. They want to log on to their micro blogs(微博) to check the interesting things that have happened in the last hour. Since last year, thetrend of micro blogging has swept the country. Recent surveys shows that most students in middle schools have a micro blog and some even update their blogs over five times per day. "We learn many fresh and interesting things on micro blogs and they have become popular topics in class," said Andy Liang, 14. "If you do not know about them, you are out." It is also a great place for students to let out stress. "My parents always ask me to study hard, and encourage me before exams, but it really adds pressure," said Simon Zhang, 15. "When I share these feelings on my micro blog, I get many replies from friends in the same situation, which makes me feel better." But parents are worried that micro blogging could be a waste of time. Some misleading messages may even cause danger to kids, they said. Mr. Shen, a professor at the China Education Association, suggests parents not worry too much as long as kids are not crazy about micro blogging. Maybe it can become a window for parents to understand their children. "If parents can read their children"s micro blogs, they"ll know their thoughts, thus leading to better communication and solutions to problems," he said. He also gives some tips for kids. -Don"t micro blog for more than one hour a day. -Never micro blog in class. -Try to talk face to face with people from time to time. -Be critical(批判性的). The weather predictions for Asia in 2050 read like a story from a doomsday movie. Many experts and green groups fear they will come true unless there is a united global effort to hold back greenhouse gas outpouring. In the decades to come, Asia—home to more than half the world"s 63 billion people—will change from one climate extreme to another, with tired farmers battling droughts, floods, disease, food shortages and rising sea levels. "It"s not a pretty picture," said Steve Sawyer, climate policy adviser with Greenpeace in Amsterdam.Global warming and changes of weather patterns are already occurring and there is more than enough carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to drive climate change for decades to come. All this comes on top of rising populations and demand for food, water and other resources.Experts say environmental worsening such as deforestation and pollution will likely enlarge the results of climate change.
