CATV is short for "community antenna (公用天线) television". But "cable television" is the name most
people like to use. Cable television can help people receive TV programs that they can not get with their
ordinary (常规) antenna.
Television signals (信号) travel in straight lines in all directions. Signals from a TV station move towards
the horizon (地平线) and then go into space. If people live only a few miles from a TV station, they may
get a good picture on their televisions. But if they live more than 50 miles from a station, they may not get
good pictures.
CATV began in 1948. People in places far from TV stations had to pay for it. A community antenna
was usually placed on a hill, a mountain or on a high tower. The antenna can receive TV signals and send
them into a small local station (当地电视台).
Today, cable television is used in more and more areas. It is even used in many classrooms all over the
country.
( ) 1. Most people like using the name of "cable television".
( ) 2. TV signals travel in curved lines.
( ) 3. People who live more than 50 miles from a station mustn"t get any pictures at all.
( ) 4. The antenna sends TV signals to local station.

not wait for you after school?
If you do, you need to control (控制) your feelings and stop getting angry so easily. Getting angry with
people can make you lose friends.
Gary Egeberg, an American high school teacher, has written My Feelings Are Just I Like Wild
Animals to help you control your feelings. It tells teens how to stay cool when bad things happen to them.
The book says that getting angry only makes problems worse. It can never make them better. Getting
angry is not a natural way to act. It is just a bad habit, like smoking. The book says you can control your
anger easily-all you, have to do is telling yourself not to be angry.
When a baby falls over, it only cries if people are watching it. Like a baby, you should only get angry
if you are sure it is the right thing to do.
The book gives many tips to help you if you get angry easily. Here are our top three:
1. Keep a record. Every time you get angry, write down why you are angry. Look at it later and you
will see you get angry too easily.
2. Ask your friends to stop talking to you when you get angry. This will teach you not to be angry.
3. Do something different. When you get angry, walk away from the problem and go somewhere else.

It may seem easy to say that plants and animals are different. Any child can tell the difference between
a tree and a dog. But those differences are far deeper than just what they look like. The cells (细胞) that
plants are made up of are different. In other words, the cell wail of plants has something special.
First of all, it"s important to find that not all plant cells have a cell wall. Besides, there are many
differences of a cell wall based on the kinds of plant. The following is meant to be what a plant cell wall is
like.
The cell wall of a plant is on the outside of the cell membrane (膜). It is usually hard and cannot be
bent easily, but the degree of flexibility (韧性) of the cell wall is different. It is based on the special use that
the cell has in keeping the plant alive. Cells that make up the trunk of a tree are clearly less flexible than
cells on a leaf.
Cell wails act in many ways. They serve to protect the plant. They provide support, as well as help in
the movement of chemicals and wastes into and out of the cell. More importantly, they control the water
that goes in and out. Plants must have good water controlling systems (系统), allowing them to keep
water during dry seasons, and get rid of unnecessary water. Plants can"t walk around to find water, so
being able to control water is very important.
So there you have it , what a plant cell wall is. Of course, there are many other things that are not talked
about here. Knowing more about plant cell wails requires further study and research.
