核心考点
举一反三
I hate being overweight. My husband said he didn"t mind, but I knew he still hoped I had a beautiful body.
Everything from my waist (腰部) to my legs was overweight. Finally, just after Christmas last year, I decided
that something had to be done.
I met Dr. Wallace, and she told me I had to stop eating fast foods. It was very hard for me because I was
eating them three of four times a week: pizza, hamburgers, whatever I could get. But I said to myself at the
start that I would try my best to do it-and I did. I even gave up the booze-something I used to have two glasses of it with dinner.
My best friend, Rachel Waterman, said I had to walk 10,000 steps every day. That was very hard for me
at the beginning. I was used to driving everywhere, but I started to walk everywhere instead. I walked in the
morning before work, and I usually took a walk in the park with my husband after work. Now I never go to
bed until I"ve done my 10,000 steps.
Six months has passed, and I made it. Last week, my husband bought me an MP4 as a gift. the weight is
wonderful-I feel like a different person now, and I can buy my favorite clothes in the shops. I am so proud
of myself because everyone thought I wouldn"t be able to make it including myself.
I love my new body, and I"ll never let myself go back into my old ways.

C. vegetables

him to take a breath alcohol test (酒精呼气测试), the result showed that he had drunk too much wine.
Because of that, he is now in prison (监狱) and can"t be allowed to drive cars in China for five years.
Nowadays, cars are very important in people"s life. More and more cars are going into Chinese families.
However, lots of car accidents take place and many people are hurt or killed every year. According to a police
survey, 3 there are a lot of drivers driving after drinking. And the number of drunken driving is still large.
After drinking, a driver can"t control himself or his car. In some cases (案例), some drivers even drove
into rivers or houses after they drank.
As it is so dangerous, there is no excuse for drunken driving. Remember the following three rules when
driving.
·Never drive after drinking.
·Never let anyone drive after drinking.
·4 Never give alcohol to anyone who would drive later.
If all of us can keep these rules in mind, there will be fewer car accidents, fewer people will be
heart-broken. For the safety of ourselves and for the happiness of our families,we must remember: No
driving after drinking!

Do you know why you sleep? You may think it"s because you"re tired. Or perhaps you"ve been told sleep is good for you. Yet no one knows exactly why or how people sleep. Until the early 1950s, most scientists thought the body and brain rested during sleep. Then a scientist watched people sleep. He noticed that during periods of between 5 and 30 minutes, sleepers" eyes made rapid movements, as if they were watching something. He called these periods REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. He called periods when sleeper"s eyes did not move non-REM sleep. Whenever the scientist woke people during REM sleep, they were having vivid dreams. Measurements showed that sleepers" pulses (脉搏) went up quickly during REM sleep. Their breathing, heartbeat, and the blood going to the brain also increased. Far from being a time of rest, sleep is a time when the body is hard at work. Scientists still don"t know the reason for this. Some believe REM sleep makes learning easier. Babies spend a lot of time on REM sleep. Because of this, some scientists believe that REM sleep helps the brain grow. Others think REM sleep is a time for the brain to empty the day"s garbage. One thing all the scientists agree on is that sleep is necessary. Without enough sleep, people make mistakes. Most car accidents happen during the early morning hours, when people are sleepiest. | |
