Five years ago, David Smith wore an expensive suit to work. He used to carry a nice         to work with him so that he could change if his clothes got wrinkled (皱的). “I’m working harder than ever,” David says, “       I need to feel comfortable.” More and more companies are          their office workers to wear casual clothes (便装) to work. They thought the casual clothes could         their work. In the early 1990s, the workers in American companies could wear casual clothes on Friday (but only on Friday). This became known         “dress-down Friday” or “casual Friday”. Why have so many companies done like that? One reason is that it’s         for a company to hire (雇佣) new workers if it has a casual dress style. “A lot of young people don’t want to         for work,” says the owner of a software company, “so it’s hard to hire people if you make a         for their dressing.” Another reason is that people work         when they are wearing comfortable clothes. Supporters of casual office wear also say that a casual dress style helps them         money. “Suits are expensive, if you have to wear one every day,” one person said, “for the same amount of money, you can buy a lot more casual clothes.”

“Hello” is one of the first words we learn as babies, yet it’s one of the last ones we think to use as adults. That’s unlucky, because saying hello is more than just saying hello. How might the world change—how might we change—if we mastered this word? ①I spent one month saying hello to every person I met. Here’s what I’ve learned.
* It can make the students more active. In a study on this subject, Allan Smith, an assistant professor, had middle school teachers greet their students individually (个别的) each morning. And the whole day, the students behaved actively because of this exchange of greetings. School went from impersonal to personal and that caused more class participation (合作) and better grades.
* Environments influence friendliness. One study found that people in the city were less likely to shake hands with a stranger than those in the countryside. ②And researchers think pleasant environments can encourage more smiles and hellos. For example, people in vacation spots were much more friendly than those hurrying to work downtown.
* It improves people’s health. It’s impossible to say hello without smiling. And smiling has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce stress and bring happiness. Obviously, a smile creates a similar effect in the recipient (接受者).
So maybe we can make the world a better place by saying hello. After a month of doing it, I feel lighter and more connected and I have a better sense of happiness.

At present, almost everyone has a mobile phone, but have you ever thought that cell phones      be bad for your health? A study shows that heavy mobile phone use may cause hearing loss(失聪).
This study shows that people who use cell phones for about an hour a day have a       time hearing some similar sounds, especially in their right ears. It is getting harder for       to tell the difference between the sounds of“s”and“f”,and“t”and“z”.
Researchers studied 100 people who used cell phones and       them with 50 people who did not. The study lasted for 12 months. What the researchers found was that cell phone users had more hearing       than those who did not use cell phones.
Besides this, our ears have many little       inside them. Too much noise will cause these hairs to get weak and       die. When these hairs die, it affects our ability to listen.
However, cell phone users don’t care too much       this study. One man said,“I’d be more worried about people who       MP3 players. They put those earphones in their ears and listen to very       music. I think that is more likely(更有可能的) to cause hearing loss than a cell phone.”

San Russell is not your average(一般的) baseball fan. He is a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan. He has a season ticket and he arranges his work schedule so he does not miss a game. San also attends game dressed in their uniform, and his car is red. He has even lost some friends by choosing to watch the Red Sox instead of going to their weddings. Is this healthy behavior?
Although Russell’s case is extreme, being a sports fan can be healthy for you. According to a study at the University of Kansan in the USA, sports fans suffer from depression less than people who are not interested in sports, fans also experience other effects from watching their team play. When their team wins a game, their own confidence and happiness increase, just like the athletes. Losing, on the other hand, always leads to some sense of disappointment.
What about die-hard fans whose team always loses? The team spirit keeps those fans from losing hope. Knowing that other fans are probably feeling the same way also helps them. In addition, there is always the hope that their team will win the next game. Russell has lost some friends because of his love for baseball and although you may think that would make him unhappy, he has made many more new friends because of his team spirit.

Goog morning, Ladies and gentleman. My topic is “________”.
Now in the 21st century, advertising is more and more important for people. Why? I think it is because through advertising, people, especially the businessmen, can introduce their products to the people all over the world. Because of this, many companies spend a lot of money on advertising. As we all know, there are many advertisements which are very interesting and popular. For example, Michael Jordan made an interesting advertisement for Nike. From this you can see how the companies make their products known to the world.
People can make a lot of money through advertising. It is known that many famous singers and movie stars make money in this way. However, I don’t think this is a good way for them to make money, because they are not the professional advertisers, especially those who advertise in medicine advertisements.
Nowadays, advertising not only means making the products known, but also means make ourselves known to people around us. Living today, we have to make people believe in us if we want to do important jobs. But how can this be done? We should first let other people know our good side: the good habits and abilities we have. In short, we should always remember to advertise ourselves to others.
