When people travel abroad(国外), they sometimes stay in the homes of the local people. This is a homestay.
I am living with an old English couple, in the west of London. They have a clean four-bedroom house. This is a new house. It has two bathrooms and a garden with many beautiful flowers. I have a bedroom of my own.
There are some shopping centres and a restaurant next to the house, and the house is close to an underground station. It takes about 30 minutes to take an underground to the centre of London.
I think a homestay may be a good choice for you if it is your first time to visit abroad. The local people are friendly and ready to help. If you want to celebrate the holidays with them, you will get to know more about their culture and customs.

Don’t use earphones when walking outside. It’s dangerous to do so because you can’t notice those cars, buses or trucks back and forth. Your bag should be put within your reach, or it is easy enough for the thieves to steal the things in your bag. If you are followed by a stranger, cross the street and go in the other direction. Next, go and get help from others if it is necessary. Don’t go home directly. Your are safer on the street than you are in your home alone. You can’t leave school by yourself. Don’t forget it’s safer in school yard than the outside world. Don’t sleep on buses, or you may miss the right stop. If your house catches fire and you have to escape through smoke, move on your hands and knees with your head 30 to 60 centimeters above the floor. Please remember there is cleaner and cooler air near the floor during the fire. |
We all dream about things that we would like to do we hope to achieve in the future. But are everybody’s dreams the same? Here are some of the findings of a survey about hopes and dreams, in which thousands of students across China took part in it.
What are the hopes of teenagers?
We received several different answers to the question: what would you like to do after finishing your education? It seems some students would like to start work as soon as possible, so that they can help provide better lives for their parents. Other students hope to continue studying after finishing school and to go to university. Although money is important, many teenagers said they want to do jobs they enjoy. According to the survey, the most popular choice of job is computer programming.
What are the dreams of teenagers?
Teenagers have all kinds of dreams. Some are more realistic than others. For example, many students said they would like to be volunteers if Beijing could hold the World Cup, maybe working as translators or tour guides. And quite a few said they dream of going to the moon one day.
According to the survey, less realistic dreams are also common, but many students reported that they were willing to work hard to achieve their dreams. Quite a few dream of becoming famous, perhaps famous sports people or singers. Some said they’d like to go on exciting trips; one students said she’d love to sail across the Pacific Ocean. And then there are dreams that are impossible; three students said they’d like to be able to fly!
Conclusion It was clear from the survey that teenagers have similar hopes. It seems that most students hope to have a good education and find a good job. On the other hand, students dream of very different things: good things, and even crazy things. It is very important to dream, so hold on your dreams; one day they may just come true.

The students’ life today can be very stressful (紧张的). They are under pressure (压力) every day. They need a (1)break from it. Parents should ask children to do something else. But not let them relax in front of the TV. A hobby is the perfect answer.

The book that can’t wait
One problem a lot of people have with books is that they buy them and then never start reading them.
To 【1】, a foreign publisher called Eterna Cadencia came up with a very clever idea: it printed the words of the books in disappearing ink: the text of the book vanishes(消失) two months after the special package of the book is opened, so that encouraging buyers to start reading it 【2】 it goes away. They call this “the book that can’t wait.”
According to a video presented with the story, the book was 【3】 . The publisher sold out the whole first edition(版) at a bookstore the day it was printed, and received “thousands of requests” for more copies of the book. It also got a lot of news reports. As a result, the publisher is planning to publish 【4】 kinds of books in disappearing ink.
In some ways, the idea is pretty clever.【5】, we still have some suggestions:
First, the book should start the vanishing process after the reader first opens the book. If the vanishing ink books become very popular in the future, readers will need to read them one at a time. They don’t want their books to vanish before they read the first page.
Second, the vanished book should find a 【6】 use. Maybe they can be recycled, or maybe we can use them as notebooks. It would be a more environmentally friendly way to do this.
