     Mr Smith lived in a town by the sea. He had a few shops in the town center. He managed (管理)
them carefully and got a lot of money. He was very rich but he didn"t think he was the richest in the town.
So he tried to get more money.
     Once Mr Smith was asked to dinner. He heard there was  a  circus  troupe (马戏团 )  in  the  town.
The circus troupe had nothing strange except a five-legged (五条腿的) cow. People were interested in it
and most of them saw it.
     On his way home, Mr Smith heard an old man tell his grandson that there lived a lot of one-eyed

     After he got home, he told his sons to manage the shops for him and he went to look for the island
without telling anybody about it. At last he reached the island and saw some one-eyed children. He was
so happy that he rushed towards the youngest one and carried him on his back. But he didn"t know the
danger was coming to him. A few one- eyed men ran to him with knives in their hands. He threw the child
to the ground and tried to run away, but it was too late. They caught him and showed him on the island
because only he had two eyes there.
