In many places, increasing numbers of people can watch more TV than before. Ten years ago, only 44% of British homes had satellite or cable TV(卫星或有线电视).Today, more than 93% do. More importantly, recent studies show that people are spending more time watching TV. Surprisingly, this is even true of young people between the ages of 8 and 18.Today"s television industry has given so many choices. As a result, people can watch more of the things they like 24 hours a day.
The technology behind television has also improved. The big boxes that once filled living rooms are gone. Today"s TV screens are thinner and thinner, yet the pictures are better and better. TVs are also moving from living rooms into kitchens and vehicles.
For years, TVs have also been used as video game players. But now they have been used in a few new ways. Many televisions can connect to the Internet and record programs. They also let people watch two programs at the same time. Today the most modern television has been on the way of development.

Gregg Bleakney’s dream was to travel the Americas from top to Bottom. He got the idea after he finished a long bike ride. Gregg’s friend, brooks Allen, also liked riding a bike. The two friends talked and made a plan: they would travel from Alaska to Argentina—by bike.
To pay for the trip, Gregg and Brooks worked to save money for a long time. Once they were on the road, they often camped outdoors and ate cheaply. In many places, local people opened their doors to the two friends and gave them food.
On their way, there were deserts, rainforests and mountains. They visited modern cities and ancient ruins (遗迹) such as Machu Picchu in Peru. And they made many friends from all over the world.
In May 2007—two years, twelve countries, and over 30,500 kilometres later—Gregg finally reached Ushuaia, Argentina. (Near Guatemala, Brooks had to go back and Gregg continued without him.)
The trip taught both men a lot about traveling. What did they learn? Here is some of Gregg’s advice:
Travel light. You should carry many things with you.
Be flexible (灵活). Don’t plan everything. Then you’ll be more relaxed and pleased especially if there are problems.
Be polite. one traveler told Gregg, “Nobody wants to fight or cheat a nice man.” It’s true.
小题1:Gregg Bleakney’s dream was to _______________.
小题2:Before traveling, the two friends _____________to pay for the trip.
小题3:___________ got to Ushuaia, Argentina in May 2007.

We parents like to make sure that our children are eating well and getting all the nutrients(营养)they need. Children need two or three kinds of vegetables every day.
A simple way to get children to eat vegetables is eating them ourselves. Following our habit, they may start eating vegetables. Don’t say things like, “If you eat your vegetables, you can have desserts(餐后甜食).” These methods work for a while but can possibly lead them to disliking vegetables more. Giving your children new varieties(多样性) which will help her or him develop a taste for trying new things.
Sometimes the simple things just don’t work. We have to start becoming a little creative when it comes to make our children eat these vegetables. By doing this in the beginning when they are small, it will hopefully help them learn to love vegetables.
Think of creative ways to make children eat vegetables. For example, cut up vegetables like carrots, tomatoes, and assemble (集合) a creative way on a plate for an afternoon snack. Or try using cheese sauce either by dipping(浸)vegetables or by putting the cheese right on top of the uncooked vegetables.
If you prefer, you can also add a teaspoon of sugar on top of cooked green beans and peas to give them a little sweeter taste. Doing this shouldn’t lead to a sweet tooth as long as you only give them a small amount.
If you have a child that refuses to eat vegetables, some of these suggestions I’ve listed will help to turn that around. In the end, you’re not just getting them to eat vegetables, you are helping them to live a healthier lifestyle.

When a “boss child’’ doesn’t learn limits(限制)at home, troubles will appear outside the family. The child may have trouble obeying(遵守)teachers, for example, or keeping friends. It can be pretty lonely as the top dog if no one likes your ruling ways.
Bossy kids are often unusually bright. Their parents need to be especially careful to manage them. Bossy kids usually work more on the mother. It’s important for both parents to know their child’s weakness, to agree on key rules and to back each up.
Even as you try to be kind—to a point—don’t give up your parental ruling post. Instead, stand your ground by using body language that tells your child who the boss is.
Good manners are important to family. Show a child by example how to ask for something rather than shout orders. Try asking your child to do things that are not too difficult. Then reward(奖励)him with a hug(拥抱)and words such as “Thank you. I like it when you listen to me.” Over time good manners will become associated(联结)with pleasure.
小题1:Is the passage mainly about how to teach children?
小题2:Do boss children usually feel lonely or have a lot of friends?
小题3:Which of the parents should know their child’s weakness?
小题4:Why is it important to teach children good manners?
小题5:What should parents be like to teach a boss child well?
