When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said, “My ears, Mommy.”
She said, “No. Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon.”
Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had thought about the correct answer. So this time I told her, “Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes.”
She looked at me and told me, “You are learning first, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind.”
Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was crying. Mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to Grandpa. She asked me, “Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?”
I was shocked when she asked me this now. I always thought this was a game between her and me. She said, “This question is very important. It shows that you have really lived your life.” I saw her eyes well up with tears. She said, “My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder.”
I asked, “Is it because it holds up your head?”
She replied, “No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or loved one when they cry. Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometimes in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you will have a shoulder to cry on when you need it.”
From then on, I knew the most important body part is not a selfish one. It is sympathetic(有同情心的) to the pain of others.

小题2:推理判断题。This question is very important. It shows that you have really lived your life.“这个问题很重要,它能说明你是真正过日子”。
小题3:细节理解题。I always thought this was a game between her and me.“我一直以为那是我和她之间是一场游戏”。
小题4:细节理解题。I saw her eyes well up with tears.“我看到她眼中含着泪水”,所以妈妈哭了。

Some animals stay active in winter. They must ___①___ themselves when the weather changes. Many change their doing or their bodies. For example, snowshoe rabbits grow white fur to help them hide in the snow.
Food is hard to find in winter. Some animals, ____②____ mice, collect lots of food in autumn and store it to eat later. Some animals eat different kinds of food as the seasons change.
Some animals sleep for part or all of the winter. The animal’s body temperature drops, and its heartbeat and breathing slow down so it uses very little energy. In autumn, these animals get ready for winter by eating much more food than in summer and storing it as body fat. They use this fat to keep them alive while sleeping.
Every type of insect(昆虫) has its own life cycle and that is the way it grows and changes. Different insects spend the winter in different forms of their lives. Who are better at science in your class, girls or boys? Nowadays, girls start to show more interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects, according to a recent study by Cambridge Occupational Analysts (COA), UK.
In the study, last year, over 20,000 students who were in their final year in high school were surveyed. The number of girls considering university courses in STEM subjects has been larger than that of boys. Over a fifth of the girls surveyed said they were considering related jobs, such as engineering and technology. Interest has also risen in mechanical (机械学的) engineering, electrical engineering and the sciences.
This is an important change for women in the UK. In the past, there were not nearly as many women as men studying STEM subjects or working in STEM related fields. Only 13% of people who graduated from university with STEM degrees were women. Now, there are about 22%. In the past, only one eighth of the STEM jobs were held by women. This was partly because of the stereotype (刻板印象) that men are more suited to this work than women. Now it has been changed. Over 20% of the engineers are women in the UK.
In fact, STEM subjects are fun and exciting. ①Studying science can benefit (使……受益) girls. “It opens girls up to fascinating careers,” Niki Yates, manager of GSK’s UK Business, told The Daily Telegraph. ②She says it is important to encourage young women to do these jobs. They will receive higher pay in these areas. More women in work also helps the economy grow.
