    Wang Junxia was born on January 19, 1973 in a village in Liaoning Province. She is 1.62 metres tall.
When she was fifteen, Wang Junxia went to Dalian Sports School and began to train as a long-distance
runner. In 1994, Wang Junxia won a gold medal at the Asia Games in Japan and in 1996 won a gold
medal and a silver medal at the Olympic Games in the USA. She became the first sportswoman to win
a gold medal in the long-distance running event for China at the Olympic Games.
